Early voting for the May primary began today!

Though I do have an opponent this upcoming November in the general election, this marks the first primary in which I’m running unopposed for my re-election as state representative. Even without a primary opponent, I remain committed to connecting with my constituents by knocking on doors and staying in touch with people across our district.

Whether you choose to vote early or on Election Day, I would be honored to have your support! Attached is a Butler County Republican Party slate card as well!

After nearly a year and a half of conversations, debate, committee hearings, and meetings, Aspen’s Law is one step closer to becoming reality.

In May 2024, Aspen Runnels was walking across the street in Liberty Township, in a marked school zone, when Aspen was tragically struck and killed. The driver pled guilty but was only charged with a first-degree misdemeanor.

Feeling that justice was not served, Aspen’s mother, along with family and loved ones, turned their grief into action—advocating for change, including strengthening state law to impose harsher penalties for traffic offenses and fatalities that occur within active school zones.

In working with Aspen’s family, our goal has been to mirror laws governing active construction zones, where penalties are automatically doubled and constitute a felony when a construction worker is fatally struck—because the lives of children in school zones are just as important and deserving of protection.

I want to thank the Runnels family and their friends for coming to the House session yesterday and being part of this important vote. I will continue fighting for this legislation as it moves to the Senate!

This past Monday was one of the most exciting ribbon cutting ceremonies I’ve ever attended in the 46th House District!

Butler Tech, officially cut the ribbon on their new Avaition Center located in Middletown at the Middletown Regional Airport. Framed as “The New Frontier”, this state of the art facility allows students to learn in real aviation environments. It’s equipped with flight simulators, hands on training in maintenance, and connections to employers in the industry for high paying, on demand jobs.

With over 300 people in attendance, the event showed the dynamic partnerships between leaders in education, industry partners, and elected officials from all levels of government. I was grateful to present a commendation along with some of my House colleagues to Butler Tech Superintendent William Sprankles.

I want to wish good luck to the Miami University men’s and women’s basketball teams as this week begins the NCAA tournaments!

The boys program had an unprecedented season in going UNDEFEATED, for the first time in school history! On the team is a recent graduate of Lakota East High School, Trey Perry, who is a freshman and has played big minutes this year.

The Miami Redhawks Women’s team also had a very incredible year finishing the season as the Mid American Conference Champion and held a 28-6 record.

At a recent Miami men’s and women’s home game, I was grateful to President Crawford and Randy Thomas to be recognized on the floor with other leaders such as Congressman Warren Davidson and Ohio Supreme Court Justice Pat DeWine.

Love and Honor!

Great to attend an event over the weekend supporting Congressman Warren Davidson and to catch up with our next governor, Vivek Ramaswamy.

We had a good discussion about the issues I’m hearing most from constituents. Vivek is already hitting the ground running, and I look forward to working with him when he’s Governor!

The last two days in Columbus were packed with important meetings, discussions, and events. Here’s a quick recap:

Spoke on a legislative panel for the Ohio Fire Chiefs Association to discuss recent property tax legislation and what it means for Ohioans and fire departments across the state.

Attended Governor Mike DeWine’s final State of the State address.

Participated in our Majority Caucus meeting and several committees hearings.

Met with representatives from Miami University, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, as well as constituents from my district who were at the Statehouse for advocacy days.

Caught up with the Fire Chiefs from Liberty Township and the City of Monroe.

Held policy discussions with colleagues on several pieces of legislation, including bills I am sponsoring and others currently under consideration.

Drove back from Columbus last night to attend the “Light Up Lakota” event at Lakota East High School, which highlights many of the great things happening across the Lakota Local School District. Thank you to Superintendent Whitely for the invite!

I went and visited with Deputy Farthing this morning after getting off shift at the firehouse. He is in good spirits and on the road to recovery.

While I was on shift yesterday, my crew arrived second on scene behind Deputy Farthing for a reported vehicle fire. Shortly after we began our fire attack on the vehicle, the suspect stabbed Deputy Farthing.

I want to commend our crew for quickly switching from fire attack to rendering first aid to Deputy Farthing without hesitation. A huge thank you to the City of Middletown Fire Department for their assistance with patient care and resources. I’m also grateful for the Butler County Sheriff’s Office for their swift response and support during the incident. Never did I believe something like this would happen on our watches.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to check on us. Our prayers are with Deputy Farthing for a continued recovery. Grateful that God was looking out for all of us yesterday!

Yesterday, I had the honor of speaking at the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Advanced Manufacturing Workforce & Innovation Hub in Hamilton. The AM Hub is a great example of what is possible when community, industry, and education come together to train and develop Butler County and Ohio’s future workforce!

As a proud Miami and Butler Tech alumni, I am excited to see the collaboration between Butler Tech, Miami University, and the Butler County Commissioners on this transformative project.

I have the honor of representing more than 125,000 people in the 46th House District, and they are always my top priority when I’m in Columbus working on policy and fighting to get things done.

This week’s winter weather kept me closer to home, which gave me the opportunity to reconnect with many of you who have contacted our office with questions or concerns about current issues, positions I’ve taken or votes I’ve cast. I’ve truly enjoyed returning calls and speaking with hundreds of people across the district to better understand why you reached out. Taking the time to talk directly with constituents—whether by phone or in person—is one of the most rewarding parts of this job.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contacted our office. I always welcome the opportunity to have a conversation and explain my positions or votes on important issues. Please continue to reach out, and keep an eye out for our new newsletter next week.

To those I haven’t been able to reach yet—I haven’t forgotten about you. I’ll keep working my way down the list!

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of sharing a few remarks at Denny Conrad’s retirement celebration honoring his 50 years of leadership, commitment, and service to the Reily Township Fire Department and the community. Denny and his family are some of the most servant hearted people I have ever met and I am extremely grateful for all their help over the years. Denny’s son, Don Conrad, also had retired after 28 years of service.

At the event, many got to say congratulations to Nick Schwab as well, as he was recognized for his recent retirement from the Reily Township Fire Department after 27 years of service. I am deeply grateful for the many years all three of these men dedicated to serving Reily Township and Butler County!
