On June 13, 2026, Cahaba Valley Young Marines was happy to be able to host a flag retirement ceremony in Leeds, Alabama in recognition of Flag Day and recognition of our nation's 250th Birthday!

It is important to remember our Nation's history. It is important to remember the US Flag Code. It is important to know the difference between the desecration and retirement of our National Ensign.

Many thanks to American Legion Post 107 for supporting our efforts!

A special thanks goes out to the family of the young man with orange shirt for allowing him to be part of our Flag Retirement ceremony. Your patriotism makes the City of Valor proud.!

On this date (6/14) in the year of our Lord 1777, the Second Continental Congress of the United States adopted the Betsy Ross flag as the official ensign of these United States.

Each stripe represents the original 13 colonies. The solid blue field replaced the Union Jack. Each star represents each individual state. Our flag has gone through 37 star design changes between. 1777 and 1959 when HI & AK were added, which gave us the current 50 states and design we are familiar with today.

On 6/13/26 at 10:30am, Cahaba Valley Young Marines will be hosting a Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Veterans' Memorial Park at 1159 Montevallo Rd SW, Leeds, AL.

All of Leeds, and Moody are welcome to attend and participate.

Today, we remember, the 2,510 American men and who give all, on June 6, 1944, during the invasion of Normandy, France to liberate France from the N**i occupation....known as D-Day.

Attention On Deck!!

Good morning, Leeds and Moody. This weekend at our meeting, Cahaba Valley Young Marines took pleasure in welcoming our newest members into our fold and began their introduction to the Young Marines program. We played games on general Young Marine knowledge and physical fitness. We look forward to helping them develop.

The Young Marines program instills the ideals of Discipline, Leadership, Teamwork, as well as encouraging a Healthy Lifestyle. Our next recruit training class begin 6/27/26. Please contact us for additional details or https://youngmarines.org/join/ to sign up.

April 27, 1805, US Marines led by Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon captured the fortified port city of Derna in Ottoman Tripolitania, the first US military action on foreign soil. The action inspired the line "to the shores of Tripoli" in the Marine Corps Hymn.
