We are an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife in Tuolumne and nearby counties, with special focus on birds and squirrels. Our goals are to provide quality rescue, treatment, rehabilitation and release assistance to orphaned, injured and/or diseased wildlife while offering education and public awareness of our native wildli

fe to the community. We have permits from California Fish and Wildlife and U.S. Fish and Wildlife to do this work. Our volunteers have the facilities and approved training to ensure that the wildlife we care for receives the best possible care and the greatest chance of being released back into the wild.

This is how we roll when feeding the baby Great Horned Owl to prevent it from imprinting on us. Thankfully, it is now eating out of a dish.

Here's a couple of Western Gray Squirrels we have in care. They are 2-3 weeks old and came from different nests in the same tree. Remember to check for nests before you do any tree trimming!

Last weekend, Chuck and Eli, spent the day putting up the wire netting and shade cloth over the 50' flight cage. This is not the usual kind of job they do with Mike Rodgers Construction but they did a fantastic job and we are so grateful. Now for the plywood skirt around the bottom.....

We were invited to participate in this year's Christmas Tree Lane. What a fun way to get our name out there and show people what we do. The trees will be in Sonora Courthouse Park until the New Year but if you want to vote for the best one, you've got to go see them before the 15th!

Even though this bird is a Common Poorwill, we think of our Thanksgiving guest as anything but common. They hunt moths at dusk and dawn and are known to hibernate. This one hit a car's antenna and though it didn't break anything, it was badly bruised. These birds will not self-feed in captivity (unless presented with flying moths) so must be hand fed every day in care. This one is flying again now and will be released back in Groveland tonight. Happy Holidays!

Another Western Screech Owl just passed all the pre-release tests. He had severe head trauma from a collision with a car. This picture was taken on intake. It has taken a few weeks but he has his wits about him again, he's flying great, seeing and hearing and last night he proved he was ready to go by successfully hunting his dinner. If the weather forecast holds, he should be flying free next Tuesday.

This Great Horned Owl is a first year male that got caught on a barb wire fence. He really tore up his wing trying to free himself. We've spent almost 2 weeks dealing with wound care but continue to have concerns about some of the damage, so this weekend he's going back to the veterinarian. Under anesthesia we can get a better look at the remaining wounds without causing the owl more pain. Hopefully they will continue to heal.

This is Lila. She asked if there was a Girl Scout project she could do to help our organization. We gave her a few options and she came back and said she'd like to do all 3! She fundraised for the materials and even taught herself to sew! She donated the bench for our volunteers to take a break on, the potted plants to provide food and habitat in the aviaries, and she made a dozen hammocks for the squirrels and opossums! Thank you so much Lila!
