After more than 10 weeks of separation, Families and Friends of the 4th Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment were finally able to reunite with their Soldiers. From all walks of life, individuals arrived at Fort Jackson to begin their Army journey. Today, they once again recited the Oath of Enlistment, and placed the U.S. Army insignia on their sleeve signifying that they are now U.S. Army Soldiers. Tomorrow they will graduate from and move on to the next stage of their training.

This past Saturday, hundreds of service members participated in the Danish Flyver March, a 12.4 mile (20 Km) ruck march carrying a minimum of 22 lbs. The march was organized by Fort Jackson's Headquarters & Headquarters Battalion. Units and friends rucked together, building morale and camaraderie, in addition to earning a ribbon authorized to be worn on their dress uniform. Participation wasn't limited to Soldiers assigned to Fort Jackson. Participants included members of the South Carolina national guard, Cadets from nearby universities, and service members from the Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.

From providing military marches at Graduation Ceremonies to the rendering of honors by playing Taps at funerals and memorial services, Army musicians provide class and pageantry to a Soldier's Career. Army Bands also perform in the community, connecting the American people to the U.S. Army. Last Friday the 282d Army Band performed at Finlay Park bringing their talent to the stage for the enjoyment of everyone in attendance.

Last week, the trainees of the 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment completed Basic Combat Training and became Soldiers in the U.S. Army. With Family and Friends in attendance, these newest Soldiers celebrated their accomplishment before moving on to Advanced Individual Training to continue their military journey. What a feeling! You can't overstate the joy and emotion during a Basic Combat Training Family Day at Fort Jackson. Last week graduation Soldiers and families members of the 1st Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment reunited for the first time after more than 10 weeks apart.
