Today is World Mental Health Day. I have long been an advocate for mental health awareness. Therefore, I have made mental health a significant issue during my campaign. Many people who come through Justice Court have mental health issues. Covington County Hospital is doing some great things on the mental health front and has worked hand in hand with other institutions in the county to advance the identification of mental health issues and provide access to mental healthcare. I would love to see Justice Court collaborate with them to ensure that those who need and want help receive it. Additionally, working with them to expand their current efforts and brainstorming new ideas to assist those who are often marginalized and tend to slip through the cracks of the justice system.

Whenever I'm asked why I ran as an independent, I always answer with this question: "Did you know that Justice Court judges are the only judges in Mississippi who have to declare a political party?" Chancery and Circuit Court Judges are nonpartisan, which means that everyone runs in August, and the top two vote-getters have a runoff in November.
