What does homelessness really do to a child?

Children experiencing homelessness are:
• 3x more likely to be placed in special education
• 8–9x more likely to repeat a grade
• 7x more likely to attempt su***de
• Nearly half experience anxiety, depression, or withdrawal

Each number reflects the challenges children face without a stable place to call home.

When a family finds stable housing, a child gains the chance to focus on school, build confidence, and just be a kid.

📊 In 2025, families with children turned to Family Promise of North Idaho:
• 421 calls for help from families with children
• 50% of those calls were for shelter
• 17 families each month were newly homeless or facing eviction

These are working families, right here in Kootenai County—parents doing everything they can for their kids and still falling behind as costs rise.
