October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month 💙💛 At the Sullivan County Department of Public Health, we're proud to support individuals with Down syndrome and their families through early intervention, family support, and developmental services. Individuals with Down syndrome are automatically eligible for our services.

We are also proud to mention our Accessibility Kits available to families who are looking for a fun and positive representation learning tool to empower and explain different disabilities through real stories.♿📚

Winter is coming sooner than we think - the orioles are gone; the chipmunks are feverishly grabbing up all of the seeds, (I have pictures!)
Here's a RAFFLE for a full cord of kiln dried wood, delivered up to 25 miles from me🤗 $10 for one and $20 for 3 tickets! We have 1,000 tickets to sell AND not many sold 😢. The benefit is for the maintenance of the Erie Depot, 8537 State Route 97, COCHECTON, NY. Check out our Woody the Bear replacement! Our winner in the name the Bear contest is incognito, but the name chosen is...🥁🎵🎶🎵🎶 MAKWA, which is pronounced MUCKWA in the Native American language.

The 19th Annual Coffee, Tea & History is set for Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 1pm at the Cochecton train station- 8537 State Route 97, COCHECTON, NY.
Professor Evan Pritchard will speak about Cochecton’s first people, their trades and portage routes along the Delaware River. Water transportation was their main source of travel. Samples of Native American food will be shared. The Upper Delaware Scenic Byway has made this possible with a grant for Culture and History relating to the Delaware River Valley. More details will be shared as we add to this event. Please note, we are selling raffle tickets for 1 full cord of kiln dried wood delivered! One ticket is $10, Three tickets are $20! Get ready for winter!

$10 for one ticket or THREE for $20. Winner has a choice of One Full Cord of Kiln Dried Firewood delivered within 25 miles (or make arrangements to go further). If you do not burn wood you can opt for $100. Email [email protected]

August 5,2025 the CPS members enjoyed a Potluck supper. First order of business we reviewed 62 names submitted for the NAME THE BEAR contest. There were many names thoughtful, some clever and funny. We voted for Makwa, which means Black Bear in Native American language. Roger Stauch’s name was drawn for his submission to name the new bear Makwa and will receive a Woody the Bear commemorative T-shirt. The shirt will be available for sale to visitors at our Coffee, Tea & History on Sunday, September 21st, 1pm at the Erie Depot - 8537 State Route 97, COCHECTON, NY. Meanwhile, we took the bag off of Makwa’s head and gave him a hearty welcome. For more info email: [email protected] 🧸
