Sam the skunk would like to file an official complaint.

His apple bowl is currently only 73% full, his emotional support stuffies are not arranged to his exact specifications, and his caretakers had the audacity to suggest that one apple might be enough for the afternoon.

The answer, according to Sam, is no.

This sassy little gentleman believes that every day should include a steady supply of crunchy apples, a carefully curated collection of stuffed animal friends, and staff members available for immediate emotional support whenever life becomes too overwhelming (such as waiting 12 whole seconds for a snack).

Fortunately for Sam, his demands are usually met. After all, when you're this adorable, it's hard to argue with management.

Working at a wildlife sanctuary has many perks... but keeping your snacks to yourself is not one of them. 🍎🦝

Rocket and Galaxy, our resident raccoon duo, take their self-appointed roles as Workplace Wellness Coordinators very seriously. If they spot a caregiver enjoying a snack, they are more than happy to help make sure nobody overeats during the work day. After all, sharing is caring... according to raccoons.

Of course, we don't just hand over treats. Rocket and Galaxy receive many of their snacks in puzzle bowls and enrichment feeders designed to slow them down, encourage natural foraging behaviors, and give their clever little minds a workout. Raccoons are incredibly intelligent animals, and keeping them mentally stimulated is just as important as keeping their bellies full.

The only downside? They've become experts at solving puzzles... and identifying exactly which caregiver might be carrying snacks. 👀🦝🦝

Book an interactive tour today and let Rocket and Galaxy relieve you of a bowl of healthy snacks at their own personal Raccoon Bar! https://www.natureofwildworks.org/book-a-tour

Sometimes as a caregiver, you ask your senior kinkajous to compliment you… and instead of words, you are rewarded with the ear wiggle of your dreams. 🥹✨

Honestly, from senior kinkajou brothers Zeke and Zac, that is basically the highest honor imaginable.

No thoughts. No compliments. Just tiny wiggly ears, big nocturnal eyes, and the overwhelming feeling that perhaps you have been accepted into the rainforest fruit goblin inner circle. 🌙🍌

🦅 Gwen Needs Your Help 🦅

Our beloved peregrine falcon, Gwen, came to us in 2022 as a retired falconry bird and has since become a cherished member of our wildlife family.

Recently, we discovered a serious infection in one of her talons. After careful monitoring, veterinary care, and specialist review, we sadly learned the talon will need to be surgically removed. Gwen even began chewing at the injury, and we rushed her in for emergency treatment.

A peregrine falcon’s talons are essential for hunting, perching, and balance—one of their most important tools for survival. While Gwen is not able to be released, ensuring her comfort and quality of life is our top priority.

Her surgery is scheduled for this Monday, and we’re keeping our talons crossed for a successful outcome. The procedure will cost approximately $790, with additional expenses for bandage changes, follow-up care, and long-term medication.

As a nonprofit, unexpected medical costs like this can be difficult to manage—but Gwen deserves every chance at a healthy, comfortable life.

💛 If you are able, please consider donating to support Gwen’s surgery and recovery:

Every gift, no matter the size, truly makes a difference.

Thank you for being part of Gwen’s story and our wildlife family.
