🚲 E-BIKE ACCIDENTS RISING
Local law enforcement has reported an increase in e‑bike-related accidents in our community. As summer approaches and more students are riding, we encourage families to take time to review safe riding practices.

Did you know that more than 80% of e-bike and e-scooter accidents occur in urban areas? According to a Harvard report, statistics also show these accidents have been doubling every year.

Parents, make sure your children know the rules of riding an electric vehicle to help keep them safe on the road.
Under California Vehicle Code §21200, those riding bicycles or e‑bikes on public roads have the same responsibilities as drivers of cars. If used incorrectly, e-vehicles can be impounded and will require expensive fines to be returned.

For more information and safety tips from law enforcement, check out our full Parent Bulletin on E-Bike Safety at cusd.com/parent-bulletin.

🏕️ HIRAYAMA CAMPING DAY
A bear was spotted on the Hirayama Elementary campus during the last week of school! Well, it was actually second grade teacher Rachel Sanchez in disguise, surprising her students on their "camping day!" Sanchez prepared scavenger hunts, s'mores and other outdoor adventures for her class to celebrate the end of the school year.

🎓 GRADUATION: PARENT EDITION!
To officially wrap up our graduation season, we wanted to look back at the last few weeks of celebrations and turn the camera onto some of the biggest supporters of our students: their loved ones! Parents, grandparents, friends and more were cheering from the stands, and we captured just a few of those moments showing just how much support our students have.

One final congratulations to our Class of 2026!

❤️ THANK YOU RETIREES!
One hundred and thirty-six Clovis Unified employees are making this summer break permanent, and officially retiring from the district! They were honored during the annual Retirement Reception, where friends, family and colleagues gathered to celebrate their years of service to our students and our community. With a combined total of 3,285 years of service between them all, there is a LOT to thank these retirees for! We hope they enjoy their well-earned retirement, and thank them for their dedication to Clovis Unified.

Retirees, make sure you join our "Clovis Unified Retirees" Facebook group! It's a private space just for CUSD retirees to stay connected with each other, share news and be invited to district events.

Environmental Science students from the Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART) recently worked with the Fresno Chaffee Zoo to design enrichment items for some of the animals! Check out the ABC30 story on these students and their innovative projects.

CART is a collaborative campus shared by Clovis Unified and Fresno Unified school districts that offers hands-on career-learning courses in a variety of pathways including law, medical, business and graphic design. They often partner with local organizations to gain real-world experience and expand opportunities after graduation. To learn more, visit www.cart.org.

Students work alongside zookeepers for a semester and are assigned an animal they research before designing a device that encourages natural behaviors.

💙 GREEN SHIELD SPOTLIGHT: ALTA SIERRA INTERMEDIATE
The Alta Sierra Intermediate Bruins wrap character strengths into every aspect of campus life, which is why the school was deemed a national "Green Shield School" by the Postitivity Project organization!

Alta Sierra Intermediate was the first intermediate school in the district to earn the Green Shield Award, and has now earned it for a second time! They promote Positivity Project learning in the classroom and reinforce the lessons around campus, by recognizing students who are putting their strengths into action to care for others and for their school. Learn more about their success with the Positivity Project in this video!

All Clovis Unified elementary schools and several seconday schools participate in the Positivity Project, and this year eight CUSD schools earned P2's top award of a Green Shield designation. The Positivity Project is a social-emotional daily grade-level appropriate curriculum that uses 24 character strengths to educate and encourage positive behavior, relationship building and stronger social-emotional capabilities. The Green Shield is given to a school for its all-in committment and innovation with the Positivity Project in classrooms, around campus and even at home.

Join us in celebrating Clovis Unified's Green Shield winners that include Century, Clovis, Mickey Cox, Miramonte, Oraze, Weldon and Young elementary schools, and Alta Sierra Intermediate.

Keep it positive, CUSD!
