United Way of Greater Cleveland Mobilizing and empowering our community to alleviate poverty.

United Way of Greater Cleveland is a local, independent nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting poverty across the Greater Cleveland area. The largest private-sector investor in health and human services, United Way invests in efforts that address poverty using a two-pronged approach. The first prong focuses on the daily issues affecting those living in poverty, the Community Hub for Basic Ne

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equity.

As we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States, we also recognize the importance of creating communities where everyone has the opportunity to move forward. Together, we can continue building a future of possibilities.

Nearly half of Cuyahoga County households are struggling to afford basic needs.

Our newly released 2026 ALICE Report shows that 41% of local households don't earn enough to cover essentials like housing, child care, food, transportation, and health care. That's more than 227,000 families living paycheck to paycheck.

These are the workers who keep our community running every day, including childcare providers, grocery store clerks, delivery drivers, and more. Yet too many are one unexpected expense away from financial crisis.

Thank you to News 5 Cleveland for helping shine a light on the challenges facing ALICE households across our region.

A new reality is emerging in Greater Cleveland: more people are working, yet more families are struggling to afford the basics.

The latest data shows that nearly half of Cuyahoga County households live below the ALICE threshold. Despite working, these households can't consistently afford essentials like housing, food, transportation, healthcare, technology, and childcare.

While poverty has declined over the past decade, the number of working households facing financial hardship has grown. These are our neighbors and the essential workers like cashiers, caregivers, and delivery drivers who keep our community running every day.

United Way of Greater Cleveland is bridging the gap from stability to possibility through United Way 211, workplace programs, community partnerships, and advocacy efforts that help hardworking families stay on track and keep moving forward.

Supporting veterans takes all of us. 💙

Today, we partnered with C.A.V.A - Cleveland American Veterans Association and Industrial Commercial Properties - ICP to deliver hygiene kits to veterans residing at Volunteers of America transitional housing.

These simple but essential items can make a meaningful difference, helping provide comfort and dignity for veterans as they work toward stable housing and new opportunities.

We're grateful to our partners for coming together in support of those who have served our country. Together, we're building a stronger community for veterans across Greater Cleveland.

Getting involved in the community is central to our Emerging Leaders group.

This network of young professionals is committed to service, leadership, and philanthropy. Last week they volunteered with Food Strong at the Superior Farm Fix-Up.

They joined other volunteers to prepare a site that will transform a former church and farmhouse into gardens, hoop houses, and an urban farm over the next five years.

We're grateful to Food Strong for their partnership and for the important work they do to expand access to fresh food and create healthier, more vibrant neighborhoods throughout Greater Cleveland.

Happy Pride, Cleveland! 🌈

Today, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and honor the advocates, leaders, and neighbors who continue working toward a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

At United Way of Greater Cleveland, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive, be treated with dignity and respect, and feel a sense of belonging in our community.

We are proud to stand with our LGBTQ+ neighbors today and throughout the year as we work together to build a stronger Greater Cleveland for everyone.

The benefits cliff prevents so many working families from moving forward.

We appreciate local business leader Jack Schron for bringing this issue to the national stage through his recent testimony before Congress. As reported by cleveland.com, workers can face difficult choices when a raise, promotion, or additional hours lead to the loss of critical benefits that support their families.

At United Way of Greater Cleveland, we partner with employers, policymakers, and others, including Jack, to advance solutions that help families move toward financial stability without being penalized for earning more.

When hard work leads to opportunity, our systems should support that progress, not stand in its way.

A Cleveland manufacturer told a Senate committee that the federal benefit cliff is quietly undermining efforts to reward workers who learn new skills.
