A new reality is emerging in Greater Cleveland: more people are working, yet more families are struggling to afford the basics.
The latest data shows that nearly half of Cuyahoga County households live below the ALICE threshold. Despite working, these households can't consistently afford essentials like housing, food, transportation, healthcare, technology, and childcare.
While poverty has declined over the past decade, the number of working households facing financial hardship has grown. These are our neighbors and the essential workers like cashiers, caregivers, and delivery drivers who keep our community running every day.
United Way of Greater Cleveland is bridging the gap from stability to possibility through United Way 211, workplace programs, community partnerships, and advocacy efforts that help hardworking families stay on track and keep moving forward.
