Water is widely considered the world's most valuable resource. In our second education session of the year, we will explore the efforts being made to safeguard our water supply and develop innovative technologies that enhance the way we use and protect our waterways. We will examine the dangers posed by sulfide mining in the Great Lakes and the changes in policy surrounding water protection issues.
You are likely familiar with the history of the Cuyahoga River. We will provide an update on the progress made toward delisting the river as an area of concern. Additionally, we will have the opportunity to learn about a new product created by students from Case Western Reserve University designed to filter microplastics from our waterways.
This session will feature case studies and equip you with fresh insights into how we can - and are - protecting our invaluable water supply.

Speakers: Paula Maccabee from WaterLegacy, Samantha Martin from Cleveland Water Alliance, Jennifer Grieser from Cuyahoga River AOC and Max Pennington from Cleanr

Many thanks to our Presenting Sponsor NOPEC and our Event Sponsor Cleveland Water Alliance

There is still time to register for our education session this Thursday, 9/11/25: Climate Goals: Are They Enough?
Are the climate goals we've set sufficient or do we need to reassess them? We'll dig into this question with local and national experts who will review climate trends and science based data. We know the commercial building sector is a contributor to global emissions. We'll discuss what progress has been made in our industry and what more we need to do. We'll also get an update from Sarah O'Keefe with the City of Cleveland's Office of Sustainability - Sustainable Cleveland on their near term and long term goals. Other speakers include David Easterling with Future Climate LLC, Erin McDade with Architecture 2030, and Liz Beardsley with U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

We have a great education session coming up: Climate Goals: Are They Enough? Leading national and local experts will provide an update on climate change and the science-based targets we must achieve to keep global warming in check. Are our targets sufficient, or is it time to reassess them? We'll dig into climate trends, rainfall metrics and when we can expect to reach the 1.5 degrees of warming that was set as the upper limit by the Paris Accord to avoid severe impact of climate change. We will also address the built environment's impact and what we must do to meaningfully reduce our impact on climate change. We've made progress but is it enough? We'll answer these questions in addition to hearing from the City on their new goals and initiatives. Speakers: David Easterling from Future Climate, Erin McDade from Architecture 2030, Liz Beardsley from U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Sarah O'Keeffe from City of Cleveland - City Hall
