Legal citizenship is already a requirement for voting in federal elections. Non-citizen voting is extremely rare and illegal. This bill creates a hardship for American citizens who should have the right to vote but will be denied if this bill passes.
Do you have a passport? Do you have the $165+ to get one with all the documentation required? Have you ever changed your name, been married, divorced, or remarried? You’ll need this entire certified paper trail to get a passport. This threatens the vote of millions of women who changed their last name after marriage. Were you adopted or old enough that your birth certificate is impossible to obtain?
If so, you may NOT be able to vote. And I believe that is the harmful intention of the ruling party.
