During the 1920s, James "Pigmeat" Jarrett (1899-1995) was part of the Queen City’s blues scene and played at house gatherings, speakeasies, and on steamboats. On June 19th, 1992, the City of Cincinnati declared it “Pigmeat Jarrett Day” during a concert performance by the legendary bluesman at the Downtown Main Library. He returned to the Library in April 1993 for a second concert performance as well as an interview about his life.
