Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned they were free and more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Juneteenth serves as a reminder that freedom is precious and that our nation’s story is one of perseverance, progress, and hope. As we reflect on this important chapter in American history, may we honor those who endured hardship, celebrate the freedoms we enjoy today, and continue striving to build stronger communities for future generations.

This rain may fall quickly in torrential downpours. Life threatening flooding is possible somewhere within the Flood Watch area. Stay weather aware and remember: turn around, don't drown.
