Folsom, CA Fire Department has returned a previously “browned out” engine to service after implementing a new single role EMS staffing model. The department hired 14 single role EMTs and paramedics to staff two of its three transport ambulances, freeing firefighter paramedics for suppression assignments and allowing Engine 39 to return as a three person ALS engine company. The change maintains three transport ambulances while improving suppression staffing and the department projects the new model will reduce personnel and training costs rather than require additional funding. It’s another example of the many departments rethinking the traditional staffing model to better manage EMS demand while keeping fire resources available.

Seq. Co. Volunteer Firefighter appreciation dinner set for Oct. 19

The 10th annual Sequoyah County Volunteer Firefighter appreciation dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 19, at the Sequoyah County Fairgrounds, courtesy of Cherokee Nation and Sequoyah County elected officials.

All active and retired firefighters and their families are invited to attend.

The fairgrounds are located at 464101 E. 1070 Rd. In Sallisaw.
