It is an act of justice.” – Nelson Mandela
We have a dream of upward economic mobility for our community. The myth that LGBTQ people are all wealthy and have disposable incomes has left many in our community feeling forgotten and unwelcome. Our youth are displaced. Our elderly return to the closet in old age or delay seeking health care for fear of discrimination. Our transgender members of the c
ommunity fight twice as hard to be employed in regular jobs. Our non-white members battle with feelings of exclusion. For a great community that has fought for equal rights, marriage equality, and has battled HIV/AIDS, why have we not pooled our resources to care for those among us who are underprivileged? Our organization, Proud2Share, will be a national leader focused on alleviating poverty within the LGBTQ community. We are a network for connecting those who have been fortunate with those who have not. This means tackling issues like youth homelessness, trans-inclusivity, immigration, racial disparities, educational needs, and employment assistance. In a country where just 5% of LGBTQ people contribute to LGBTQ causes, we see an opportunity create change and break down the barriers facing the disadvantaged. Will you help us build a better community? Proud2Share is an annual, federated campaign. Ninety percent of funds raised will be distributed through the LGBT Community Fund, founded by The Chicago Community Trust Organization, and will be granted to organizations serving LGBTQ poverty. The remaining 10% will go to Chicago House and Social Service Agency to cover the administrative costs of operating the campaign.
