IDEM Emergency Disaster Debris Burning Authorized

Under normal circumstances, open burning is prohibited in Porter County except where specifically permitted by applicable law, regulation, or authorization. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has authorized each individual fire department to make the determination to allow open burning because of the August 11, 2026, storm and derecho that impacted the area. LTVFD will be allowing limited authorization subject to strict conditions designed to protect public safety and reduce the risk of wildfire or uncontrolled fire and facilitate speedy recovery following the storm cleanup.

Residents who choose to conduct an authorized open burn are responsible for complying with all applicable requirements and conditions.

Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign whether by displaying a sign, donating your time or resources, or simply coming out to vote. I’m truly grateful for each and every one of you.

Last night’s results are a strong step forward, and I couldn’t have done it without your support. While we should be proud of this moment, there’s still important work ahead as we head into the fall to finish what we started and reach the finish line together.

The voting sites are open! Stop by and see me at Jackson School today!
