Congratulations to Andrew Smith for being selected as a top-50 finalist for the 2026 Harbor Freight Tools for Schools Prize for Teaching Excellence! Recognizing top-tier skilled trades educators in U.S. public high schools, the program puts Andrew in the running for one of 25 final prizes totaling $2 million this fall.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the flagship prize program, created by Harbor Freight Tools founder Eric Smidt through The Smidt Foundation. To date, the initiative has awarded over $10 million to 183 trades teachers across the country. Congratulations, Mr. Smith!

We are pleased to announce that Derrick Gordon has been named Safety and Attendance Officer for Chesterfield County School District.

Mr. Gordon joined Chesterfield County School District on October 6, 2004, as Administrative Assistant at Cheraw High School and has served in that role throughout his tenure with the district.

Prior to joining CCSD, Mr. Gordon worked as a corrections officer, probation officer, and criminal justice instructor at Northeastern Technical College. His experience in education, public service, and student support has provided a strong foundation for this new leadership role.

We are pleased to announce that Yolanda McDonald has been named Director of Transportation for Chesterfield County School District.

Ms. McDonald has served Chesterfield County School District since 1997. During her career, she has worked as an attendance clerk, bus driver, Bus Supervisor, and Transportation Coordinator. She was promoted to Bus Supervisor in 2005 and later became Transportation Coordinator in 2025.

With nearly three decades of experience in district transportation operations, Ms. McDonald brings extensive knowledge of the department and a strong commitment to serving students, families, and staff. We look forward to her continued leadership as Director of Transportation.

We are excited to announce that Dr. Omoro King has been named the next Assistant Superintendent of Chesterfield County School District. In this role, he will continue to provide leadership and oversight for Student Services and Administration while helping guide the district’s ongoing commitment to excellence.

Dr. King began his educational career in Chesterfield County School District in 2002 as a mathematics teacher. Over the years, he has served in a variety of leadership roles, including assistant principal, principal, and Chief of Student Services and Administration. He also expanded his leadership experience by serving for two years as Director of Elementary Education in Darlington County before returning to continue serving the students, staff, and families of Chesterfield County.

With more than two decades of educational leadership experience, a deep understanding of our district, and a steadfast commitment to student success, Dr. King is exceptionally well-positioned to serve in this important role. We look forward to his continued leadership and the positive impact he will make on our schools and community.

We are excited to announce Mrs. Tucker’s new role with our district as Chief of Special Education!

A trusted and respected leader, Mrs. Tucker has dedicated 27 years of service to our students, staff, and community. Throughout her career, she has served in a variety of impactful roles, including teacher, literacy coach, assistant principal, interim principal, and most recently, principal of Ruby Elementary School since July 2023.

Mrs. Tucker’s extensive experience, deep knowledge of our district, and unwavering commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed make her an outstanding choice for this position. We are confident that her leadership, passion, and dedication will continue to make a meaningful difference for our exceptional learners and their families across the district.
