BURN BAN UPDATE — Murray County
Effective immediately, Murray County is lifting its local burn ban. That said, drought conditions across Georgia remain a concern, and we will continue to monitor local fire danger closely. Should conditions warrant, restrictions may be reinstated without delay.
All residents are reminded that burning must be conducted safely and in accordance with state law:
— A burn permit is required from the Georgia Forestry Commission prior to burning. Permits may be obtained by calling (706) 695-3422 or visiting gatrees.org. Permits are valid for the day issued only.
— All burning must take place between sunrise and sunset.
— Burn sites must be at least 25 feet from woodlands and at least 50 feet from any structure.
— Fires must be attended at all times until completely extinguished.
— A water source or hand tools must be on site and readily accessible.
— The burning of household garbage, tires, plastics, lumber, or any man-made materials is prohibited by state law year-round.
We ask that all Murray County residents burn responsibly and remain good stewards of our community and natural resources.
For questions, please contact the Murray County Fire Safety Division at (706) 695-2088.
