Scheduled Water Main Flushing Notice – Jennings Rd, Indian Hill Rd, W. Memorial Hwy, Warren Bridge Rd, and Howards Bridge Rd in Union Grove

Iredell Water Corporation will be performing proactive water main flushing at hydrants and the ends of water mains to maintain water quality during the following schedule:

Dates: Monday, August 31st through Friday, September 4th, 2026
Time: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM each day
The following areas will be affected:

Jennings Rd (north of Indian Hill Rd), Indian Hill Rd, W. Memorial Hwy., Warren Bridge Rd., and Howard’s Bridge Rd.
During this time, customers may experience:

Temporary drops in water pressure
Discoloration in the water
We recommend refraining from using water during the flushing hours, if possible, to avoid drawing discolored water into your private service line or plumbing system. If you notice discolored water, please open your cold-water faucet only and allow the lines to flush until the water runs clear. Avoid using hot water during this time to prevent discolored water from entering your water heater tank.

Why is the Water Discolored?
Discolored water is typically caused by naturally occurring minerals, such as iron and manganese, that are present in the water system. These minerals can accumulate in water mains over time and may become dislodged during activities which cause high velocity flows of water in the distribution system. Examples may be the use of hydrants by emergency personnel or unauthorized use of hydrants, water main flushing, or water main breaks and repairs. We perform proactive flushing to lessen the chances of dingy or discolored water during these high flow events.

Is It Safe to Use?
While discolored water may appear unappealing, it does not pose a health risk. The presence of iron and manganese in the water is harmless, and the discoloration is purely aesthetic.

What Should You Do?
If you notice discolored water:

Run cold water only from a faucet (preferably in a bathtub or an outside spigot on the furthest end of the home from where the water enters the home) for several minutes to flush your internal plumbing system.
Avoid using hot water during this time, as it may draw discolored water into your water heater tank.
If the discoloration persists after flushing, please contact our office for assistance.

Voluntary Water Usage Restrictions Now In Effect for
Iredell Water Customers

Recent rainfall enables move away from mandatory restrictions

Statesville, North Carolina: Due to recent rainfall, Iredell Water is issuing a change from mandatory water restrictions to voluntary water restrictions, effective immediately. Because the Iredell Water service area remains in moderate drought, however, and it operates a groundwater-based system, Iredell Water must still ask its customers to use water wisely.

As a result, Iredell Water is asking our customers to voluntarily continue with the following steps:

• Repair all known leaks
• Limit at-home car washing to the minimum.
• Limit lawn and garden watering to that which is necessary for plants to survive.
• Limit washing down outside areas such as sidewalks, patios, parking lots, service bays or aprons, etc.
• Do not leave faucets running while shaving, brushing, teeth, or rinsing dishes.
• Water shrubbery to the minimum required, reusing household water when possible.
• Limit use of clothes washers and dish washers and when used, operate when fully loaded.
• Use of showers for bathing instead of baths and limit showers to a few minutes.
• Limit flushing of toilets. Think “If it’s yellow, be mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down.”
• Use of disposable and biodegradable dishes, if possible.
• Use of flow-restrictive and water-saving devices when possible.
• Limit hours of operation of water-cooled air conditioners.
• Use only hoses with spring-activated nozzles when watering lawns and gardens.

Iredell Water is also implementing its Voluntary Lawn and Landscape Irrigation Schedule, which is used during times of moderate drought. The schedule is as follows:

Odd-numbered street addresses:
o Tuesday 8 p.m. to Wednesday 8 a.m.
o Saturday 8 p.m. to Sunday 8 a.m.

Even-numbered street addresses and unnumbered addresses:
o Thursday 8 p.m. to Friday 8 a.m.
o Sunday 8 p.m. to Monday 8 a.m.

The U.S. Postal Service increased postage rates again on July 12, raising the cost of a Forever stamp from 78 cents to 82 cents. With postage becoming more expensive and mail delivery often taking longer, now is a good time to stop mailing checks and sign up for Iredell Water Corporation’s free ACH bank draft service.

• Avoid postage, envelopes, and check costs
• Avoid mail delivery delays

📅 Water bills are normally generated between the 22nd and 25th of each month. Your payment is automatically drafted on the 10th of the following month—five days before the due date.

ACH bank draft is a secure bank-to-bank payment method that eliminates the need to send a physical check through the mail.

Some customers may be hesitant to provide their bank account information. However, your routing and account numbers are already printed on every check you mail. ACH bank draft allows the payment to be processed electronically without placing a physical check containing that information in a mailbox or postal collection box.

**Water Restriction Update**

Despite recent rainfall, Iredell Water Corporation’s mandatory water restrictions remain unchanged. Nearly half of Iredell County remains in the **D3 Extreme Drought** designation. Continued conservation is still necessary.

**Outdoor irrigation is still limited to one overnight watering period per week: **

• **Odd-numbered addresses: ** Saturday, 8:00 PM to Sunday, 8:00 AM
• **Even-numbered and unnumbered addresses:** Sunday, 8:00 PM to Monday, 8:00 AM

The following uses remain prohibited when using water from an Iredell Water Corporation metered service connection:

• Residential vehicle washing
• Pressure washing or washing of driveways, sidewalks, patios, buildings, or other outdoor surfaces
• Permits for bulk filling of swimming pools from IWC hydrants
• Permits for use of potable water for dust control or construction purposes

Pressure washing may be performed if the water is not supplied through an Iredell Water Corporation meter, such as water obtained offsite, water hauled in by tank, or water from a personal well.

Pools may be topped off or filled slowly using a regular water hose through an active metered service connection.

MANDATORY OUTDOOR WATER USE RESTRICTIONS REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR ALL IREDELL WATER CUSTOMERS

Despite Recent Rainfall, Mandatory Restrictions Remain Due to Continued Extreme Drought Conditions

Despite the recent rainfall, Iredell Water Corporation's Stage II Mandatory Outdoor Water Use Restrictions issued in April REMAIN IN EFFECT until further notice.

While the rain has been welcome and beneficial, drought conditions did not develop overnight and will not disappear overnight. It took several months of below-normal rainfall to create the current conditions, and it will likely take several weeks of consistent rainfall before drought impacts are significantly reduced.

One of the most common questions we have received this week is whether the recent rainfall has ended the drought. While the rain has certainly helped, drought conditions are determined by more than just a few days of rainfall.

Factors such as groundwater levels, stream flows, soil moisture, rainfall deficits, and long-term weather patterns are all considered when evaluating drought conditions and water supply impacts.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Extreme Drought (D3) conditions continue to impact the northern portion of Iredell County, which encompasses a significant part of Iredell Water's service area. Sustained rainfall over a longer period is necessary before drought conditions can meaningfully improve and restrictions can be reduced across our service area.

The restrictions were implemented to reduce overall water demand by approximately 10 percent and help protect water supplies, system reliability, and drought resiliency.

Thanks to the cooperation of our customers, water usage has declined compared to typical seasonal demand. We appreciate everyone's efforts to conserve water during these challenging conditions.

If the current pattern of regular rainfall continues over the coming weeks, Iredell Water may be able to reduce restrictions to voluntary conservation measures. However, if conditions become drier again, additional restrictions could become necessary.

Our goal is to avoid repeatedly changing restriction levels, which can create confusion for customers and reduce the effectiveness of conservation efforts.

ALL IREDELL WATER CORPORATION CUSTOMERS REMAIN SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING RESTRICTIONS

Outdoor water use is significantly limited, and customers are encouraged to continue practicing water conservation indoors as well.

Lawn Irrigation

Lawn irrigation is restricted to one overnight watering period per week based on an odd/even address schedule. No daytime watering is permitted.

Irrigation Schedule:
• Odd-numbered addresses: Saturday, 8:00 PM to Sunday, 8:00 AM
• Even-numbered and unnumbered addresses: Sunday, 8:00 PM to Monday, 8:00 AM

Prohibited Uses

The following non-essential uses of potable water are prohibited:
• Washing driveways, sidewalks, patios, parking lots, buildings, and other outdoor surfaces
• Residential vehicle washing
• Bulk filling of swimming pools
• Operating ornamental fountains or ponds not required to sustain aquatic life
• Using potable water for dust control or construction purposes
• Flushing hydrants or water mains except as necessary for public safety, water quality, or regulatory compliance

Permitted Uses

The following uses remain permitted:
• Hand watering of plants, flowers, shrubs, and gardens
• Drip irrigation systems
• Normal indoor residential and commercial water use
• Commercial car washes, where applicable
• Topping off or filling swimming pools through an active residential or commercial metered service connection

Additional Water Conservation Tips
Customers are encouraged to:
• Repair all known leaks promptly
• Water lawns and landscaping only as necessary for plant survival
• Avoid running faucets unnecessarily while shaving or washing dishes
• Operate dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
• Take shorter showers
• Reuse water when practical for landscaping and plants
• Use hoses equipped with shut-off nozzles
• Limit operation of water-cooled equipment where applicable

Statesville, North Carolina. April 23: Due to extreme drought and a lack of rain in long-range forecasts, Iredell Water is issuing Stage II mandatory water restrictions for all its customers until further notice.

They involve significant limits on outdoor use, including an odd/even watering schedule. Non-essential uses, such as washing cars and bulk filling of pools, are prohibited.

The quality of the drinking water has not been affected. The restrictions only involve the water supply levels.

According to the North Carolina Drought Management Advisory Council (DMAC), extreme drought is impacting more than 40 counties in the state, including Iredell County. While cooler weather kept water use lower and delayed the need for restrictions, the upcoming combination of warmer weather and lack of forecasted rain makes the restrictions necessary.

The goal of the restrictions is to reduce overall water use by 10% to try to maintain adequate water pressure throughout the system to maintain service, and ensure fire protection capabilities. Without a reduction in use, more severe restrictions may be required.

ALL IREDELL WATER CUSTOMERS ARE UNDER THE FOLLOWING RESTRICTIONS. Outdoor water use is significantly limited, and customers are asked to be mindful of their indoor use:
