We want to thank our friends at Briley Apartments (part of Simpson Housing) for coming and volunteering with us yesterday. Their staff showed up with big smiles and helping hands to support us in the garage by greeting our donors, taking donations and providing extra support in our processing area.

Briley sought to spend their time with us because over the years they have referred many of their residents to us who have needed rental support. They have seen our mission in action firsthand and understand the financial challenges many of our neighbors’ face, as well as the impact of receiving the support through MHC. Thanks for all you do for your residents and thank you for giving us your time!

The Matthews HELP Center's Supplemental Staples Program (SSP) provides our clients with food and other basic items to support them through their times of crisis. MHC volunteers assemble packages of food and other items, and our social work team distributes them to our neighbors in crisis.

To make sure that the Supplemental Staples Program remains a valuable resource for our clients, MHC relies on the generosity of donors and local partners. If you are able, please consider donating any of the listed items. The products listed in this post are of particular need right now, however you can find a full list of SSP eligible items on our webiste.

Anne is a healthcare worker in our community who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She lives alone and works full-time to cover her rent and utility bills, but the time she takes off work for chemotherapy and cancer treatment is unpaid. Amid all this, she was the victim of a traffic accident that left her car undrivable. With the cost of auto repairs, medical bills, utility bills, and rent, Anne quickly fell behind. When she came to the Matthews HELP Center, she had already received notice that her utilities would be disconnected in April. The Matthews HELP Center’s social work team stepped in and brought her utility balance back to zero, which will keep Anne’s lights on as she navigates this difficult time in her life.
