Free the Vote Coalition

Free the Vote Coalition A Coalition of political parties, public policy organizations, elected officials and private citizens for the passage of HB794, the Voter Freedom Act of 2013.

The Free the Vote Coalition is a project of Free the Vote North Carolina composed of representatives appointed by each of its member organizations. The Coalition Committee works to coordinate efforts between member organizations for the promotion and passage of HB794, the Voter Freedom Act of 2013. We believe that by bringing together political parties, public policy organizations and individuals

from all walks of life and political ideologies that we will be able to make a significant impact by showing that ballot access reform is not a partisan issue, but one regarding freedom of speech for every individual. Through its member organizations, the Free the Vote Coalition will work to network groups and individuals across the state of North Carolina, from all ends and parts of the political spectrum, in order to keep pressure on our legislators to pass the Voter Freedom Act of 2013 (HB794). Ballot access reform in North Carolina will have a much better chance of success as groups of divergent views join together in this common cause to show our legislators that North Carolina must have free election as required by our State Constitution in Article I Section 10. Together we will amplify our voices and tell Raleigh to restore the right to vote in North Carolina.

"Yesterday, the House Election Committee took up HB794, Voter Freedom Act of 2013. During the meeting, the Committee decided to turn HB794 into a Study Bill due to some unanswered questions and concerns from some members. The altered bill, a Proposed Committee Substitute for HB794 which passed unanimously, now directs the Joint Elections Oversight Committee to study all issues covered by the original Voter Freedom Act of 2013, including ballot access requirements for political parties and unaffiliated candidates."
