Orange Village Ohio

Orange Village Ohio The Official Page of Orange Village Ohio - 15 miles east of Cleveland Ohio. The population was 3,326 In the early 20th century, Oris P. and Mantis J.

Incorporated in 1927, Orange is a village 15 miles east of Cleveland. Bounded on the north by Woodmere, on the east by Moreland Hills, on the west by Warrensville Heights, and on the south by Solon, it occupies 3.5 square miles. It was originally part of Orange Township, formed in 1820, which also included the modern communities of Moreland Hills, Woodmere, Pepper Pike, Hunting Valley, and part of

Chagrin Falls Township. Serenus Burnett was the township's first settler, arriving in 1815. The name Orange honored the Connecticut hometown of several early settlers. By 1820, the population of the thriving agricultural community was almost 300. Before 1850, framed homes replaced log houses, steam sawmills and cheese factories developed into major businesses by the turn of the century. The main road, SOM Center Road, derived its name from Solon, Orange, and Mayfield Townships. Van Sweringen began buying farmland as part of their plan to develop the entire district from Shaker Heights to the Chagrin River. As population increased, the desire for separate governmental representation led to the creation of the various communities. The Hunting Valley, Moreland Hills, Pepper Pike, Woodmere, and Orange public schools have consolidated into the Orange School System. Actually located in Pepper Pike, the Orange Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library System served Orange, as well as other neighboring communities. Orange had a population of 2,810 in 1990 and operated under the mayor-council form of government.

Hawk Nesting Season is Here!

Ever felt like you were being watched from above? It’s officially hawk nesting season in Ohio (April–July), and the Red-shouldered and Red-tailed hawks are extra protective of their nests.

Please note that all hawks are federally protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It is a federal crime to harass, capture, or kill them. Most “attacks” stop on their own in 4–6 weeks once the chicks leave the nest.

We had reports of active nests in the tree on the Beechmont Oval cul-de-sac.

How to stay safe without ruffling feathers:

For Humans:

Give them space: Avoid the nesting area for the next few weeks.
If avoidance is not possible;

Umbrella Trick: Carrying an open umbrella is the #1 way to stop a hawk strike. It creates a “ceiling” they won’t fly under.

Gear Up: Wearing a bicycle helmet or hard hat can protect your head if you MUST pass by.

For Pets:

Stay Close: Hawks are much less likely to swoop if you are standing right next to your small pets.

Add Cover: If you have chickens or small dogs, use nylon netting or a “catio” to block aerial access.

Watch the Skies: Hawks can’t carry off large animals, but they can still cause injury. Keep puppies and kittens under a roof or canopy.

Aggressive Nests: For severe issues, you can contact the USDA Wildlife Services at 866-487-3297 for advice.

Active Orange – A Discussion on Wellness in the New Year
By: Councilman Ryan Bilsky

February 21 Session – Financial Wellness - 2:00 p.m.

Active Orange – A Discussion on Financial Wellness in the New Year

Active Orange is intended to encourage wellness. Wellness, in my opinion, focuses on three primary components: Physical Wellness, Mental/Emotional Wellness, and Financial Wellness. I make a conscious effort every day, for myself and for my family, to do everything I can do optimize each of those components. It can be hard and it definitely takes some effort, but the outcome is hopefully a good, peaceful and productive life for yourself, your loved ones, your community and whomever and whatever else you dedicate your time & attention to.

As we begin the new year, I thought it was a good time to get together and review each of the components mentioned above. I would like to take this opportunity to discuss Financial Wellness. Money is major part of everyone’s life and some people’s relationship can be easy, difficult, a work-in-progress, or something else altogether. Either way, no two people’s or family’s financial situation is the same. The best thing you can do is educate yourself when it comes to managing finances and make the most educated and appropriate decisions possible.

This discussion will touch on what I believe are important pillars for Financial Wellness. We will talk through some basic concepts & ideas and answer any questions you may have or possibly help validate the path you’re on.

Discussion topics will include:

– Earning & Budgeting
– Saving & Investing
– Debt & Credit Utilization
– Insurance

For this session, I will be joined by Orange Village resident, Kery Hutner. Kery is a Managing Director & Partner with Oxford Harriman & Company. Kery has over 20 years of experience as a financial advisor, providing investment planning services to individuals and corporations utilizing unique strategies tailored towards their specific goals, needs, and objectives.

Kery and I are both CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals.

This session is open to everyone – all ages and financial situations. We hope to see you there!
