The Cerro Gordo Fire Protection District would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Howard G. Buffett Foundation and the Macon County Board for awarding the Cerro Gordo Fire Protection District a $35,000 grant to purchase a new 2026 Polaris Ranger NorthStar 1000.
This new vehicle will greatly assist our department in traversing the nearly 70 square miles of Macon County that our district proudly serves. From emergency response in rural and difficult terrain to brush fire operations and patient access, the Polaris NorthStar will be an invaluable tool for our firefighters and the community.
We are incredibly thankful for the continued support of public safety and for the investment in the emergency services that protect our residents every day. Partnerships and support like this help ensure we can continue providing the highest level of service to our district.

PSA!!
Please don’t be alarmed with multiple fire apparatus in town and at the fairgrounds. We are hosting a Liquid Propane Burn at the fairgrounds so there will be a large flame present.

At approximately 2200hrs we were dispatched for a structure fire with report of fire in the attic. 503 was first to arrive on scene and all occupants were accounted for. 503 did a 360 of the home and relayed to dispatch of a 2.5 story balloon frame structure with smoke showing from the attic and deemed it a working structure fire and assumed Jefferson Street command. Engine 542 was first to arrive and Chief 501 took over command. Crews from 542,545 made entry and made an aggressive interior attack and kept fire contained to only the attic. We are very grateful for our mutual aid companies on our box alarm. All crews were clear of the scene at approximately 0030.

At approximately 1500hrs we were dispatched for a cabin on fire on Memory Ln. Upon arrival we found a fully engulfed 20x30 cabin. Captain 503 assumed Memory lane command, with Engine 542 as primary pumper. Engine 545 laid in supply line to relay pump to primary Engine. Argenta-Oreana Fire Department and Long Creek Fire Department assisted with relay pumping due not being able to set up drafting operations. All units were clear at approximately 1800hrs. Fire is under investigation at this time.
