American Legion Coy-Catlin Post 137 Veterans Service Organization since 1924. POST HISTORY

From 1924 to 1929 the Legion held meetings at the Grange Hall and the Carson community building.

In the summer they met at different parks and areas. Some meetings were held in the IOOF Hall. At the regular meeting held April 4, 1928, a committee of three was appointed to look for locations to build a hall. Dances were held at different loations. On Dec. 5th, 1928, the dance committee reported they had cleared $1.85. At the regular meeting on January 16, 1929, the building committee reported

they have no plans to go by but are going ahead the best they can. Flooring to cost about $500. After many size changes, the hall was erected in 1929, with funds raised by the sale of bonds to the members. The hall was considered one of the best Legion halls in the state at that time. The first meeting in the Coy-Caitlin hall was July 10, 1929. THe first dance was held July 3, 1929. Cost of the music was $65 and the cost of a ticket was $1. Supper was extra. The original ticket is on display. Some 200 people were served at the dance/supper.
