British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Monday that he will resign, paving the way for the country's seventh leader in a decade after facing an uprising within his centre-left Labour Party.

Alan Greenspan, the influential economist who steered U.S. monetary policy during his five terms as chairman of the Federal Reserve under four presidents, died Monday, according to his wife, NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell.
The powerful economic policymaker died from complications of Parkinson's disease.

Two people were killed, including a Montreal police officer, in what authorities believe was an attack targeting law enforcement in the city's Cรดte-des-Neiges borough; a second officer was transported to hospital in critical condition but is now stable.
Montreal police confirmed the officer killed was Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, 34, who had been a member of the force since 2021.

An explosion at Qatar's main liquefied natural gas processing facility has killed 13 people and injured dozens; Qatar's Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi said the blast at the Ras Laffan LNG complex was due to a "technical malfunction" and ruled out any "hostile" action.

China on Monday announced sanctions on 10 American military-related companies in response to a recent U.S. move that bars some leading Chinese tech companies from defence contracts.
The Commerce Ministry said Chinese companies would be blocked from exporting "dual-use" items to the 10 companies, which include military drone makers and some involved in rare earth mining.
The 10 companies include AVEOX, Red Cat Holdings, Teal Drones, IMSAR, Jaia Robotics, Ball Aerospace, Oshkosh Defense, L3Harris Maritime Services, MP Materials, and USA Rare Earth.

Two students armed with handguns opened fire in a high school in the central Philippines on Monday, killing three fellow students and wounding another seven; the suspects, aged 14 and 15, were arrested.
The suspects and victims were students of San Jose National High School in Tacloban city, where the mid-morning shooting happened, according to regional police chief Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy.
An investigation was underway to determine the cause of the shooting in the government-run school, which has more than 1,500 students.
Capoy said the suspects, who were close friends, said in initial questioning that they were bullied in school.
Although gun violence is common in the Philippines, school shootings are extremely rare, with this being one of the first in Tacloban.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was said to be saddened by the shooting.

Regional police chief Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy said the suspects barged into two rooms during the attack, with most of the dead and wounded being female students; police recovered at least 40 shell casings at the scene.
