Fibrevolution

Fibrevolution Bringing linen production back to the Pacific Northwest

Fibrevolution is a producer of high quality organic long line bast fiber, born of regenerative and sustainable systems, regional manufacturing and community activism. We envision a regional farming network, centered around a bast fiber processing facility in Oregon, which will grow, produce, and distribute bast fiber to textile, apparel, and biocomposite markets

The next step in our flax to linen journey is here... introducing Coast Fibers!

Shannon and I joined Will Altschwager to found CF last year. We have moved Fibrevolution's operations, seed and equipment into the CF structure and accelerated our goal of fiber flax processing in Oregon.

You can reach us through www.coastfibers.com and our business LinkedIn page.

Our Fibrevolution website will remain active, as will the Instagram with so much historical research and flax info from the past eight years!

Join us at the North American Linen Association for educational opportunities, flax fiber and linen market campaigns, and industry networking. NALA brings together interest groups from all stages of the supply chain to revive the North American flax fiber industry.

And a huge thank you to all the friends, family, co-workers, and colleagues who have supported our linen vision over the years, we would not be here without you!

Flax has been used for centuries for ropemaking, as a food source, and for textiles. Most impressively, the entire plant can be utilized, leading to zero-waste, healthier materials for textiles, finishes, paints, insulation and flooring.

Through photography, material samples, written text, diagrams, and artwork, the Regeneration of
Flax Exhibition will display the flax plant throughout its life cycle, in various applications, and ultimately at its end of life as compost.

Fibrevolution contributed material samples from flax grown in Oregon, which will be on display during the exhibition.

> Exhibition dates: Sept 30 - Nov 12
> Location: Arnold and Sheila Aronson Galleries, 66 Fifth Avenue at 13th Street, New York, NY
10011
> Organized by: Parsons Healthy Materials Lab and New York Textile Month
> Curation: Jessica Thies, Alison Mears, Jonsara Ruth
> Sponsors: Duracryl, Forbo and Tuscarora Mills

In celebrating National Organic Month, it felt like the right time to share that Fibrevolution, Inc. is now certified organic by Oregon Tilth. We have been growing fiber flax on organic land for many years, from Common Treasury Farm in Alsea, Oregon, to the Lewis Brown Farm at Oregon State University. Our seed contracts have been with organic farmers like Cold Springs Organics, Garnettโ€™s Red Prairie Farm, and Sweet Thyme Gardens. Our seed breeding program with Jennifer Kling has hopped from field to field over the years, and many of the locations have been certified. The seed mill in the Willamette Valley, Pacific Seed and Grain, worked with us to add flax seed to their certified product list to clean Linore fiber flax seed. We are now a certified organic supply chain from field to flax straw. To find organic suppliers for your products, search the Organic Integrity Database with 27,976 certified operations in the United States and over 18,000 worldwide.

The first blooms have begun in our field of fiber flax in Corvallis, Oregon. This has been an exceptional growing season for flax in Western Oregon; spring rains and sunny days have made the flax happy. This season, we are growing two European varieties: Lisette and Christine.

Overwintered seed breeding plots are looking good! Sunny, warmer days here in Oregon are encouraging growth. New fiber flax varieties for the North American market on the horizon! Shout out to Dr Jennifer Kling for her tireless and continued efforts to move this breeding program forward. And to Zoe for assisting all along the way. We will be planting our spring flax breeding plots in a couple days. Go team flax!!!
