All students and staff at PR Leyva Middle School are safe, and the school day has continued as normal following a precautionary evacuation this afternoon.

After an electrical smell was detected in a hallway, students and staff evacuated to their designated muster points out of an abundance of caution. The Carlsbad Fire Department responded quickly and determined that a worn-out motor in an air conditioning unit was causing the smell.

We extend a heartfelt thank-you to our school administrators, teachers, staff, students, and the Carlsbad Fire Department for their quick response and cooperation in ensuring everyone was safe and accounted for.

**¡Escuelas seguras. Comunidad fuerte. Una conversación que vale la pena tener! 💙**
