Story goes that we were named after Modesto, California. One of our founding fathers had taken a trip out west and had so admired the California town that he suggested we adopt the name Modesto. We are the only other one in the nation.

Good evening. This is a segment of an old group photo that has always been said to be a fox hunting crowd gathered in Early Modesto, Illinois.

I do not intend to use AI on many photos, unless extremely scratched. However, this one was tempting. So I used the free ChatGPT app available, presently, on Google.

Please note: all I have is a color copy from the original. This would be looking east from about the area of the current cafe’, towards where the lumber yard is today. The train tracks ran thru right about where Gibbs construction is today. It slanted to the west as it left town.
