Madison County Soil and Water Conservation District

Madison County Soil and Water Conservation District We provide a variety of natural resource assistance and service to landowners, homeowners, educators! The MCSWCD is governed by five commissioners.

The Madison County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a governmental subdivision of the State of Mississippi. The formation of Conservation Districts was authorized by the MS Legislature on April 4, 1938, through House Bill 454. This bill was crucial to stop the rapid deterioration of our sol resources caused by improper uses and the lack of conservation measures. Three are elected in a

district wide election by landowners. Two are appointed by the MS Soil& Water Conservation Commission upon recommendation of the SWCD board of commissioners. Each SWCD is authorized to appoint five deputy commissioners. These commissioners dedicate their time and efforts without pay, to provide for the preservation of our natural resources for future generations. Madison County commissioners include:
Jim Harreld-Chairman
Dennis Rankin-Vice Chairman
Bruce Craft-Treasurer
Mike Patrick
Joy Foy
Harrold Hart- Deputy Commissioner
