Check out the view of our voting center in Penrose at the library. What an amazing view of the mountains they have. I am a little jealous.

Have you voted? If so, did you vote in-person, drop your ballot off at a ballot box or return your ballot in the mail?

Another Q & A from the Clerk.

Q: Can we write in a candidate for PRESIDENT even though they are already on the ballot.

State law says

CRS 1-4-1103. Write-in votes for governor, president.
(1) No write-in vote for governor in a general election will be counted unless it includes a write-in vote for lieutenant governor.
(2) No write-in vote for president in a general election will be counted unless it includes a write-in vote for vice-president.

A: If the PRESIDENTIAL and VICE PRESIDENTIAL candidate is already on the ballot, please mark the appropriate oval on the ballot. If you use the write-in line. If you don't mark it correctly, then the vote may not count.

Q&A's from the Clerk's Office.

Do I have to fill in my entire ballot?

No. Under voting or leaving a ballot question blank will not invalidate your ballot. Under voting is okay and will not be an issue.

Over voting on the other hand is not okay. If a question asks "vote for one" or it is a yes/no question, then you can only vote for one.

Been starting to get questions about the County Surveyor race from voters. Below is the background of why the Surveyor is on the ballot this year.

The County Surveyor is a position that is normally on the ballot in the Gubernatorial years (opposite even year of presidential elections) in Colorado. In 2022 no one ran for the position of County Surveyor. With the position being vacant, the County Commissioners appointed a qualified surveyor to fill the elected position until the next general election. Because the position is fill till the next general election, that means that this year the surveyor position is on the ballot.

In 2024, this year, no one ran as part of the political parties for the elected office of County Surveyor. This is the reason there was no surveyor for the Primary Election in June. In mid July, a local surveyor submitted an affidavit as an intent to run as a write-in candidate. The candidates name is Miles Small.

Since Miles Small is the only candidate and is a write-in candidate, his name must be written in either first and last name or just last name to be counted.

I hope this clears everything up.
