🚧 Highway Safety Starts with the Details 🚧
Did you know that temporary construction signs placed within the highway boundary are required by NYSDOT standards and the MUTCD to be crashworthy?
Similar to the sign in the picture😉, that means portable temporary wooden sign supports used for road work, utility work, and other temporary traffic control operations are to be built in a certain manner, and should be mounted on “breakaway” supports designed to separate if struck by a vehicle. These systems help reduce the severity of crashes and minimize the risk of serious injury to motorists who inadvertently leave the roadway.
👷♂️As Highway Superintendent, one of the most important responsibilities is to identify and mitigate risks to the traveling public. That includes ensuring work zones are properly set up, signs are installed according to standards, and roadside hazards are minimized whenever possible.
Safe roads are about more than paving and plowing—they're about attention to detail, accountability, and protecting the people who use our roads every day.
With that said, tomorrow is the annual Canastota Nate the Great Race. I'd like to wish all of the runners the very best of luck as they take to the streets of our community! 🏃💨🏃♀️💨
