As some of you may know our high tunnels took a beating in recent storms. Even though we have paused for our spring crops our program will continue stronger than ever once the repairs are made. I am confident we will have plenty of fresh grown produce for when we return for the 2026- 2027 school year. As we continue to grow our Farm to School program we are adding school gardens, hydroponics towers, and an after-school cooking club at both of our elementary schools.

Just days away from October and our crops are still bountiful and activities are a plenty. See the descriptions under the pictures.
We are looking forward to hosting our entire 5th grade student body on Thursday morning.

What a great partnership. We have witnessed the Creating Healthy Communities program be responsible for so many positive wellness initiatives throughout Marion County. We are blessed to have been one of those.

🌱 River Valley Microfarm Feature Story 🌱

We're thrilled to highlight this inspiring feature from the Ohio Department of Health about the microfarm at River Valley Local Schools. Students are able to learn about sustainable farming, nutrition, and healthy living through hands-on experience.

Through our Creating Healthy Communities program, we were proud to help bring this project to life, supporting fresh produce for school meals and a living classroom for lifelong skills.

Thanks to our partnership with RV FARM and shared vision, students are harvesting lessons in wellness, sustainability, and local food systems, as well as enjoying the fruits (and veggies!) of their labor.

Fresh cucumbers and tomatoes! We are at Liberty Elementary during their Summer Food meal pickup this evening until 6pm. Not to worry if you can’t make it, just contact us at 740-725-5420 or [email protected] or [email protected] and we can schedule a time to meet you at the farm so you can pick out the perfect produce for your needs. If you’re interested in large quantities for canning or pickling we will fix you up.

Today is Tuesday, May 20th which is “World Bee Day”. So we would like to officially welcome our 2 honey bee hives to the RV FARM. They arrived this past Thursday and are doing well getting all settled in. We will give them the summer to get acquainted to the area and start stock piling honey for the winter. Then we should be able to start collecting fresh honey next summer. Be sure to watch the video of our FARM Team on “move in day” in the comments. River Valley Local Schools

Mr. Albert's AG 2 farm-to-table unit enabled students to harvest produce, which they then used to prepare a tasty salad in their classroom. The students thoroughly enjoyed working in the high tunnel and growing their own lettuce and other vegetables from seed to harvest. Our RV FARM team provided support to Mr. Albert, ensuring a successful harvest. River Valley Local Schools

Our bee boxes have arrived. We have about 5 weeks to get them ready before our bee nucs move in to their new homes!! Ms. Elfrinks class arrived just in time for the photo shoot!!
This project was funded by the Whole Kids Foundation grant in partnership with the Bee-cause Project that our farm team applied for over the winter. By receiving this award it has allowed the farm team (ran by the food service department) to provide supplies for our teachers to use and build curriculum surrounding bee keeping, importance of pollinators in our food systems, harvesting honey, and cooking with natural sweeteners. When local school districts use a system wide approach to educate students the sky’s the limit!! What’s coming next at the RV FARM?? Stay tuned!!River Valley Local Schools
