Christopher Crain for State Representative
Michigan District 101

Christopher, a steadfast resident of Wexford County, traces his family lineage in the area back to the 19th century. His journey includes a stint in the US Army, entrepreneurship, and a role as a former college instructor. These diverse experiences have instilled in him a profound commitment to his family, community, and the cause of human rights
Christopher's formative years were profoundly influenced by his family's values of hard work, justice, equality, and patriotism. These principles were further reinforced during his early adulthood while he served as a paratrooper in the US and overseas. His foreign service exposed him to stark social inequality and systematic human rights violations, which deeply impacted his life's trajectory. After an honorable discharge, Christopher embarked on a career as a security consultant, often working with clients who were victims of domestic violence and other forms of social inequality.
At this point, Christopher determined that he needed to return to academia to understand systematic inequality, its origins, and its propagation. During this time, he became interested in anthropology and its perspectives and methodologies for analyzing various cultural and biological conditions within and across social boundaries. This led to his central focus on violence as a methodology for maintaining social stratification in societies. During this period, he had the opportunity to instruct several collegiate courses, first as a graduate student and then as an instructor of record. Through these opportunities, he learned that anthropology's main pillars of cultural relativism and the cross-cultural perspective were valuable both for the scholar and in navigating the dynamic realities of daily social interaction. With a new understanding of these tools, returning to more active communal grassroots participation was only natural.
Christopher's dedication to social justice is a belief and a way of life. He has actively participated in his local government, attending public sessions and advocating for others on the community's current issues. His efforts have earned him the respect of local officials, leading to his recent appointment to his township's planning commission. He has also been involved in a grassroots organization that provides aid to the less fortunate in the region. His recent work with The Traverse City Housing Justice Team in Grand Traverse County has been instrumental in raising awareness about the urgent issues of homelessness, rent stability, and housing availability.

ELCRA finally happened today in the MI House.

LGBT discrimination has been legal in MI our whole lives.

Today, a bill that will add protections based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression was sent:

Out of Judiciary Committee

Out of the House

and On to the Gov!

According to the United States Census Bureau, the estimated median household income in:

Newaygo County, Michigan, as of 2019, was $53,799.
Lake County, Michigan, as of 2019, was $35,238.
Wexford County, Michigan, as of 2019, was $44,881.
Oceana County, Michigan, as of 2019, was $47,139.
Mason County, Michigan, as of 2019, was $49,319.

The nonpartisan House fiscal agency said in January that the budget surplus could reach over $9 billion by fall and that the state’s revenues could activate a trigger that would permanently lower the income tax rate from 4.25% to 4.05%.

The $180 checks would have cost the state around $800 million, lowering revenues enough to avoid the trigger. The income tax cut is now “likely,”.

Residents in Michigan's 101st District may not get the $180 check, but will "likely" experience the reduction in the income tax rate from 4.25% to 4.05%.

This is what that math looks like by county after this reduction in the income tax rate:

Newaygo: 0.2% of 53799 is equal to 107.598.
Lake: 0.2% of 35238 is equal to 70.476.
Wexford: 0.2% of 44881 is equal to 89.762.
Oceana: 0.2% of 47139 is equal to 94.278.
Mason: 0.2% of 49319 is equal to 98.638.

Representative Fox’s Math is not good for the constituents of Michigan’s 101.

Call to Action:
If you believe that it is possible to both ensure that second amendment rights and public safety are protected at the same time, please contact your elected representatives and urge them to support bills that would enact Red Flag Laws, Universal Background Checks, and Safe Storage measures. Let them know that you believe that these policies are necessary steps towards a safer society, while still upholding the rights of responsible gun owners.

(Sample Letter):

Dear Representative Fox,

I am writing to urge you to support bills that would enact Red Flag Laws, Universal Background Checks, and Safe Storage measures in Michigan I believe that it is possible to both ensure that second amendment rights and public safety are protected at the same time, and that these policies are necessary steps towards a safer society.

Red Flag Laws, Universal Background Checks, and Safe Storage measures have all been shown to be effective in reducing gun violence and increasing public safety, while still upholding the rights of responsible gun owners. I urge you to prioritize public safety while also protecting the second amendment rights of our citizens.

Red Flag Laws allow for the temporary removal of fi****ms from individuals who are deemed a risk to themselves or others, without infringing upon the rights of responsible gun owners. These laws have been shown to be effective in preventing firearm suicides and identifying individuals who are at risk of committing violence.

Universal Background Checks ensure that fi****ms are not sold to individuals who are prohibited from owning them, while still upholding the rights of responsible gun owners. These checks have been shown to be effective in reducing firearm homicides and suicides.

Safe Storage laws require gun owners to store fi****ms in a secure manner, such as in a locked cabinet or safe, which helps prevent unintentional shootings and reduce firearm thefts, while still upholding the rights of responsible gun owners.

As a constituent, I urge you to prioritize public safety while still protecting the second amendment rights of our citizens. Please support the enactment of these policies, which are necessary steps towards a safer society.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,

When I was a homeless teen I depended on the library to use their computers to apply to jobs, print resumes, fax things to my school, borrow books to help educate and lift myself out of my situation. Even borrowing books to just read. It was all necessary for my survival. Libraries save our community from ignorance and the destruction of those in poverty. Libraries are the cure to intolerance. ❤️🙏
