MY STORY

I decided to start this page to conical my own health and fitness and share my story as an attempt to help others who struggle with weight and health issues as I have. Most of my life I have taken a relaxed attitude to health and fitness, and I suffered for it. You see in 2008 I suffered a heart attack due to being over weight out of shape and years of neglect to my health. They took m

e to the emergency room and ran several tests, and after a 48 hour stay in the hospital they said they found no evidence of a cardio event. How ever they did say I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol and Type II Diabetes. At that time I was tipping the scale at around 255 lbs., but I know for a fact that I had bee up around 271 lbs. After all these diagnoses they proscribed me a hand full of pills to take and set me on my way with little information about health and fitness. Over the next year I took it upon my self to try to lose weight. I started with the fact that I had been labeled Diabetic, and all I knew is that I needed to limit my sugar intake and try to lose weight. So I set out to understand some diet ideas with low sugar and healthier foods. Over the next year with cutting back on the amount of food I was eating, and adding more veggies and less sugars and carbs, I managed to bring my weight down to around 225. After having some success with some weight loss but really not understanding what I was doing I suffered a second heart attack in mid 2010. You see even though I was trying to manage my weight and diet I really did not have the proper medications for my situation. Remember the first heart attack was not really diagnosed as a heart attack and some blockages in my arteries where undetected and got worse. This time they found a 95% blockage and the doctor said I was lucky to have survived it. They quickly did a catheter procedure and installed a metal stint to open up the blockage. Now knowing exactly what was going on in there the doctor was able to set me up on the proper medications to deal with my situation. Now in addition to taking pills for High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol and Type II Diabetes, They added a second Blood Pressure pill and an anti coagulant to keep the stint from collecting blood clots. About two years late, a move and two doctor changes later I was suffering with all kinds of side effects from the medications, but I was feeling good, so good in fact I had stopped working out and let my diet slack off to the point that I was eating everything again but still managing to stay away from sugar and keeping my weight around 225 lbs. Still way to heavy for my 5' 8” height. I felt so good that I figured I could avoid some of the side effects and save some money if I cut back on some of my meds despite what the doctors had told me, after all I felt fine. I know what you are thinking and you are right! In 2013 I had a third heart attack. This time was a eye opener. See it showed me that I had no idea what I was doing and needed help. After they installed two more stints, one inside of the previous one to open it back up and a second in another artery, I decided to sign up for the hospital's Cardio Rehabilitation program. It required me to go to the hospital's rehab facility three days a week for classes about diet and health and how to deal with my situation in addition to an hour of cardio and strength training with professionals who gave guidance and helped to educate people on taking care of their health. This lasted for two months and I had to take sort term disability from work, but it was well worth it. After that I have managed to diet and exercise more regularly on my own for about two years I concentrated only on my diet and got down from 225 lbs. to around 212 lbs that is where my diet hit a wall and plateaued. In November 2016 I joined the local YMCA and after a month of seeing incredible change and hitting my long standing ghoul of 200 lbs. I decided to step it way up and go for broke. I have now hit 190 lbs put on a lot more muscle tone and mass then I have had in years. My final ghoul is 175 lbs and more muscle mass. On this page I want to share my journey and the knowledge I have gained along the way about diet, exercise and over all fitness. You see I was a person who always made the normal excuses, “I have no time to exercise”, “Eating healthy dose not taste good”, “healthy food is to expensive”. Trust me I have used them all and I am here to tell you. I know it sounds cheesy but its true,

“IF I CAN DO IT ANYONE CAN!!!”

Well back in the gym. This time it’s my home gym setup in my garage. I found a couple apps that have some free workouts and stretches that work great. It feels great to be moving again.

Hello, I am back after a long time away from this page. I Want to become active here again and share my success as well as don'ts from my personal fitness experience. I will be putting up some more content so like and follow.

Just a quick update, In the time I have been away I have made some awesome progress in my personal health and fitness. Recently I reached a long time goal and dropped down to my lowest weight in over 20 years.

I have always been on the Husky side. (over weight) but lost to meet the requirement I needed to join the military at age 18. I then struggled to stay under the radar of the military over weight programs the entire time I was in the military.

I ended my military carrier on the military program, they called it the "fat boy program" see I was about 10 lbs. over the weight they felt was acceptable for my height. Being 5' 8" tall (they used the medical charts created all the way back in the 1950s) and I believe they still use these same charts today. According to those charts I needed to be below 170 lbs. (I wrestled in junior high school at 169 lbs.) so to start with I was 189 at 18 and had to loose almost 20 lbs. just to join the Air Force.

Long story short, in the mid 2000s I was up to 271 lbs. and at the age of 42 I had the first of would would be a total or 3 heart attacks. I decided to live and as a result had to change my life style for ever.

Now at 53 I have hit my second long term goal. first one was to get below 200 lbs. and not only have I managed to reach that I hit the second, and got below 190 lbs. Maintaining a stable weight and clean bill of health. Still have more work I want to do to get down even healthier. Stay tuned!

To be continued...........

After slacking off for a fee months. (The holidays) finally back in the gym. Check out my new plan of attack.

Doing a complete body workout 3 times a week and it only takes an hour and a half. No need for excuses.

Check it out.
I do supper sets of opposing muscle groups, for example:

#1; leg extensions (work the Quads)
I do these 3 sets of 10 with max weight.

#2; leg curls (work the Hamstrings)
I do these 3 sets of 10 with max weight

Doing 1 and 2 together. So Set 1 of leg extensions are then Set 1 of leg curls and then back to leg extensions for Set 2 and the Set 2 of leg curls. With no rest brake (only the time it takes to switch to the other machine) between.

(Max weight is to fatigue the muscle by the time you hit the 10th rep. This stimulates the muscle to grow and get stronger)

I do all major muscle groups like this and 30 minuets of cardio before the workout.

Let me know if anyone is interested and I will post the complete workout.
