This Meme makes no sense whatsever, and the added commentary shows just how confused so many others (most people) actually are. It's NOT your fault. On multiple levels; you were Culturally Raised to think that way.
Here is the Actual Truth :
There are THREE Paired Categories at play, in Every scenario.
(1) First; the actual definition of Right & Left must be properly understood. Right means less government control, and Left means more government control. Yes; its very simple, to the point, & it means nothing else.
(2) Second; the actual definition of Liberal and Conservative must also be understood. Liberal means to make change happen as often as possible, & Conservative means to make change happen as little as possible.
(3) Third; the actual definition of Democratic and Republican party affiliation must be understood. They are both deeply rooted in one's own world view of how things should ideally be, and to Utilize Politics, in order to fascilitate that world view into actual, daily practice for everyone to experience, follow, & believe in.
And now; for the Fun Stuff:
While Democrat & Republican often indicates more Left and more Right, or more Liberal Vs. Conservative .... it is not always that way. The opposite can happen, and frequently does.
(A) First; a Democrat can be a Right leaning Conservative and a Republican can be a Left leaning Liberal.
(B) Second; both parties can incorporate elements that seem to be at odds with one another. One person can be a Left leaning Conservative and another person; a Right leaning Liberal.
WHAT? .... Can that even be possible?
Yes it can, .... but even more fascinating and to the point; Most People are actually BOTH Conservative and Liberal .... at the Same Time! The reason being; it is all about the CONTEXT within the subject matter in which the beliefs are associated with. You have a belief in a topic that you want changed, or you want preserved. There can be multiple simultaneous ones that indicate Liberal: equating to a desire for change, & Conservative: equating to a desire to preserve what exists and therefore; not be changed.
The reason so many claim that they "can't tell them apart" or "there is hate on both sides" is that they aren't judging leftists vs the right...they're looking at Democrats and Republicans, picking a segment of them that they believe are "extremists" and so they get this false impression of it all...Of course, the Republicans actually allow their extreme right-wing to have a seat at their table...in fact, it's at the head of their table. The Democrats claim they have a big tent, but it only ever seems to expand towards the right...they've pulled up and paved over everything to their left...
