Not a public page or point of contact for the Alamance County District Attorney's Office. Born and raised in Alamance County, I have been privileged to serve my home as a prosecutor for over 20 years, including as elected District Attorney since 2019. After graduating from Western high School in 1986, I attended N.C. State and graduated with a Bachelorโ€™s degree in 1990 and a Masterโ€™s de

gree in 1993. I then attended UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law. As a second year law student, I began prosecuting cases here in Alamance County in early 1996. After graduation, I was sworn in as an Assistant District Attorney and served my home county for 18 years in that position. In 2015 I left the District Attorney's Office to practice law with the firm of Walker Bullard & Boone. My experience in private practice, along with my past experience as a prosecutor, provided me a more comprehensive perspective of our local criminal justice system, and with it a better understanding of how it may be improved. With the goal of making our court system better for all citizens, I ran for District Attorney. In 2018 I was elected District Attorney, and proudly continue to serve the people of my home county. As a prosecutor, I built a strong record of securing guilty verdicts against violent offenders. I prosecuted thousands of felony cases, and tried over 100 jury trials in local Alamance County Courts, obtaining over 30 jury verdicts for violent crimes such as Murder, Sexual Assaults, Armed Robbery, and Kidnapping. In the process, I formed enduring friendships and gained the trust of scores of local law enforcement officers with whom I've worked to prosecute these cases. My experience has been especially important in serving those whom crime has touched personally. Victims of crime, or the families they leave behind, often find themselves struggling to follow the unfamiliar and sometimes intimidating judicial process in their search for justice. Over the course of 20 years service as a prosecutor, I earned the trust and confidence of many victims and their family members as we walked together towards a verdict; more significantly, the bond formed in those times of crisis have turned into friendships which have lasted to this day. As District Attorney, I have worked to continue and enhance these commitments: to our law enforcement community by implementing policies to reduce their paperwork to our office (allowing more time protecting our streets); to our victims by increasing the experience level of the prosecutors handling their cases. But our obligation to justice extends further. Over the last two years, the District Attorney's office has worked to reduce the backlog of older cases it inherited, including some serious felony cases dating back to 2016 and older. Four months after taking office in January 2019, I secured a guilty verdict in a 2015 murder case where the defendant had been awaiting trial in jail for over 1,400 days. Defendants and victims alike deserve timely justice, and as of 2020, we have disposed of approximately two-thirds of these older cases. Similarly, I worked with our judges to undertake the first revision of the county bond policy in 25 years, and am currently working with other courthouse leaders on a program to provide relevant pretrial Mental Health services for non-violent offenders who need them. These efforts will reduce the number of non-violent offenders in our jail, ensuring jail space for violent and repeat offenders. Rules of Professional Conduct states that the prosecutor is a "minister of justice"; as such, my duty is to seek justice, not merely convictions. My work as District Attorney is guided by this principle. Aggressive prosecution of violent crime, efficient case management, and timely revisions of outdated policies are the practical results of this commitment. Going forward, we will continue our work to secure justice for all of Alamance County. Sincerely,
Sean

Thank you Tom Wright for the picture and the very kind Facebook post, and Lonnie Holt for inviting me to breakfast. It was a privilege to break bread with such a distinguished group of retired NC State Highway Patrolmen. When I first started as a prosecutor, I went on many ride-alongs with the patrol; I learned more from troopers about how to investigate and prosecute DWIs than I could ever glean from a book. I truly appreciate the support and encouragement this group gave me today in my effort to continue serving our county as District Attorney. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ™

As our country remembers this solemn day, I want to take this opportunity to honor my late grandfather, Jesse May. He landed on Utah beach on D-day and was later wounded in Germany. He made it home, but over 4,000 Allied troops who began that day did not. Today I am especially grateful for all of those troops who participated in the landings that turned the tide of the War. Their courage and sacrifice paid a high price for my freedom today. It is a debt that cannot be repaid, so we instead remember. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ™โœ๏ธ

Recently Dodie and I had an opportunity to obtain a document signed in 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt. While it's not in great condition, having a signature of one of my favorite presidents is awe-inspiring, especially as our country prepares for a very special 250th birthday. Roosevelt's 1904 Memorial Day address contains a passage that keeps me hopeful even while doing a job that often focuses on the bad things in our community. While many focus on what's wrong in our country, Roosevelt reminds us of the overwhelming and underappreciated good. The same may be said our our county.

"In every community there are people who commit acts of well-nigh inconceivable horror and baseness. If we fix our eyes only upon these individuals and upon their acts, and if we forget the far more numerous citizens of upright and honest life and blind ourselves to their countless deeds of wisdom and justice and philanthropy, it is easy enough to condemn the community. There is not a city in this land which we could not thus condemn if we fixed our eyes solely upon its police record and refused to look at what it had accomplished for decency and justice and charity."
T. Roosevelt, 1904

Furry Friend Friday with the handsome boy Teak! Just one look and you can tell he is a sweetheart. If your kitty needs a pal please look into adopting Teak, or if you don't have a cat, you can ask about a good buddy to come along with Teak :)

Apply today! ๐Ÿพโ™ฅ๏ธ

Teak is almost 7 years old and weโ€™d love to find him the purrfect home and for him to be adopted with one of his close buddies if possible. Heโ€™s tried the solo cat life and he finds more comfort with a cat buddy. He was adopted as a kitten but returned by no fault of his own when he was a year old. His sister Koa passed away a few years ago and she was never as healthy as he is.

Teak may hide when you first try to meet him but with encouragement he comes out of hiding. Heโ€™s a long and tall boy. He is on daily pred because of irregularities with his eosinophils on blood work. He has regular checkups. Other than that, heโ€™s had no health issues. He had all of his teeth removed in 2021, and he can still eat dry kibble. He loves his wet food every day too.

Apply to adopt and see if your home may be a good fit for him and a buddy. SparkleCatRescue.org/adopt

When I ran for District Attorney in 2018 I was blessed to have the support of retired public servants like Rick Cockman and Sammy Holt. Today I am proud to have their continued support for my re-election as District Attorney. Rick served with the Alamance County Sheriff's Office for seven years before starting his own locksmith business, and Sammy served with the Burlington Fire Department for 30 years, retiring as Assistant Fire Chief. Thank you both for your service to our community and for your continued friendship and support. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ
