I had the opportunity to visit the Boys & Girls Club of Holland to check in on the investments made at the Club over the past several years.

I was proud to secure funding that helped the Club add to its security system and technology, including additional security cameras. It was great to see those investments in place, along with a newly sealed gym floor and new music and game rooms that give local kids even more opportunities to learn, play and spend time together.

The Club is also looking ahead to future investments, including plans to expand its outdoor space.

Thank you to Brian Tavernier and Tara Greenley for taking the time to meet with me and show me the continued investments at the Club. Most importantly, thank you to the kids and staff who make it such an important part of the Holland community.

Congratulations to Birdies Bank Shot on their ribbon cutting last week. I was glad to attend their preview day and get an early look at the golf simulators and mini golf course.

It is great to see a unique new business come to our community while bringing new life to the long vacant building at Transit and Seneca, a property residents have been asking about for years.

Kathy Hochul’s failed corrections policies created a crisis that forced counties across New York to pick up the pieces.

A year later, Erie County is still paying for it.

The state owes Erie County $617,000 for housing state ready inmates and inmates held on parole violations. New York State is refusing to pay, and even that $617,000 would not cover the full cost to Erie County taxpayers.

Albany created the problem. Erie County was forced to cover it. Now Albany needs to pay its bill.

Thank you to Sheriff Garcia and the Erie County Sheriff's Office for stepping up when New York State failed its residents and continuing to fight to get Erie County the money it is owed.

The corrections crisis may be out of the headlines. Erie County is still paying for it.

This morning, I joined the West Seneca community at Union Fire Company, West Seneca Fire District 2 for a special 9/11 commemoration marking 25 years since the attacks and honoring the local first responders who answered the call and traveled to Ground Zero.

This evening, I joined the Wales community for its annual 9/11 remembrance.

Twenty five years later, we continue to remember those we lost and the Western New York first responders who put themselves in harm’s way to help others.

We should also remember what September 12th looked like. Americans came together and looked out for one another.

That is worth remembering, too.

Twenty five years later, we remember the lives lost on September 11 and the brave men and women who sacrificed their own lives to save others.

We should also remember who we were on September 12.

We were one nation. We stood together. We cared for one another and put aside the differences that so often divide us.

That unity should not only come in times of tragedy. We should carry it with us every day.

May we never forget.

Together with Niagara County Legislator Rich Andres, I am calling on churches and houses of worship across Erie and Niagara counties to join together in remembrance of September 11, 2001 by ringing their bells at exactly the time the Twin Towers fell.

9:59 AM to honor the moment the South Tower fell.
10:28 AM to honor the moment the North Tower fell.

The ringing of the bells will mark a moment for our communities to pause, reflect and remember the nearly 3,000Americans who lost their lives, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the countless acts of courage and sacrifice that followed.

Twenty five years is long enough for an entire generation to have been born since September 11, 2001. It is our responsibility to make sure the stories of that day an the lives lost are never forgotten.

Congratulations to Anthony Aguglia of Boy Scout Troop 1776 on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout! Anthony has earned numerous well-deserved honors and awards throughout his Scouting career, dating back to first grade.

For his Eagle Scout project, Anthony led a group of volunteers in renovating the Seneca Nation Commemoration Area at the Burchfield Nature Center. In total, they dedicated more than 197 hours to the project, cleaning up the site, constructing concrete stools, and installing a new flagpole.

It was my honor to present Anthony with an official Erie County proclamation recognizing him on this outstanding accomplishment.
