A Look Back! MAAFA 2016 as we prepare for 2026

🕯️ WHAT IS THE MAAFA? 🕯️

*And why Buffalo remembers on June 21, 2026

The MAAFA is a Kiswahili word meaning "great disaster."

It represents:
→ The Middle Passage
→ The forcible removal of African peoples
→ The transatlantic slave trade
→ The African Holocaust
→ The foundation of generational trauma

But it also represents resilience. Survival. Strength.

This Sunday, Buffalo honors the MAAFA with a sacred memorial program.

Not to stay in pain - but to heal from it.
Not to forget - but to remember forward.
Not to dwell - but to build on the foundation of our ancestors' strength.
