Today, Buena Vista joins our nation in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We honor the first responders, service members, families, and communities whose lives were forever changed, and we remember the courage and compassion shown in the days that followed.

Update: Disruption has been fixed and water service is restored.

City crews are actively working to repair a water service disruption in the alleyway between Oak and Cedar Avenues in the 1700 and 1800 blocks.

We apologize for the disruption and appreciate your patience as crews work to restore service as quickly as possible.

Once service is restored, affected residents may temporarily experience low water pressure as the system returns to normal. If low pressure persists after service has been restored, please contact Public Works Department at 540-261-1444.

Buena Vista is excited to celebrate the 55th Annual Labor Day Festival this upcoming Monday, September 7! We hope you’ll join us for a full day of community tradition, featuring stumping speeches, the Labor Day Parade, live entertainment, food, and activities for the whole family.

🚧 Traffic Reminder: Magnolia Avenue will be closed during the Labor Day Parade. Please be aware of increased pedestrian traffic throughout the area and use extra caution when driving near downtown and the parade route. We appreciate everyone helping keep our community safe while we celebrate!

As another school year begins, we'd like to wish all of our students, teachers, faculty, staff, and families a wonderful year ahead!

Whether you're heading to Buena Vista City Public Schools, beginning a new semester at Southern Virginia University, continuing your education at Mountain Gateway Community College, or learning in another educational setting, we hope your year is filled with new opportunities, growth, and success.

We also encourage everyone in our community to help keep our students safe by slowing down in school zones, watching for children at bus stops and crosswalks, and staying alert as school traffic increases.
