On today, September 4, 2026, we remember and honor Special Agent Robert C. Castioni, Jr., of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) / Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). He died on July 24, 2023, as a result of cancer that he developed following his assignment to the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks.

Special Agent Castioni served with the United States Department of Homeland Security - Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigations for 33 years. We honor his service and sacrifice.

Today, we honor the memory of Special Agent Louis Henry Aguirre, who passed away on November 27, 2020. His death was a result of cancer that he developed following his assignment to the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks.

A U.S. Army veteran, Special Agent Aguirre served with United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement - Homeland Security Investigations and the legacy United States Department of Justice - Immigration and Naturalization Service for 19 years. We will never forget his sacrifice and dedication.

Today, we honor and remember Special Agent Bryan K. Thiel of the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation.

Following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks, Special Agent Thiel was assigned to the search and recovery efforts in New York. Working out of the New York Field Office, he regularly performed duties in the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund Disaster Zone and at the Fresh Kills Landfill. He logged approximately 470 hours of service during 2001 and 2002, exposing him to toxic materials that led to a fatal battle with cancer. He passed away on November 6, 2018.

We remain forever grateful for his dedication, service, and sacrifice.

Today, we pause to remember and honor Deputy U.S. Marshal Zacarias Toro, Jr. of the U.S. Marshals Service.

Following the tragic events of 9/11, Deputy Marshal Toro bravely assisted with search and rescue efforts at the World Trade Center site and provided critical security for FEMA personnel at Ground Zero. His selfless service and extended exposure to the toxic conditions during these assignments led to a battle with cancer, which ultimately claimed his life on June 14, 2015.

We will never forget his dedication, courage, and the ultimate sacrifice he made for our nation.

Today we honor the service and legacy of Deputy U.S. Marshal Betty Ann Pascarella of the United States Marshals Service.

Deputy Marshal Pascarella passed away on April 6, 2020, from cancer she developed following her assignment to the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site after the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. Over an incredible 34-year career with the Department of Justice, she served her country with unwavering dedication and courage.

Today we honor the life and service of Supervisory Police Officer Yiu Tak "Louis" Tao of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Police.

Officer Tao passed away on May 17, 2022, after a battle with cancer contracted during his response to the September 11 terrorist attacks. Assigned to the World Trade Center site, Officer Tao bravely operated in toxic conditions at Ground Zero to secure the perimeter and support critical federal investigations.

His dedication to duty, bravery, and ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. 🕊️
