At the June 2, 2026, Land Use Meeting, the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously, 5-0, to approve a moratorium on AI data centers.

This is great news for Hernando County residents. A moratorium essentially pauses permits for AI data centers for 365 days. Currently, there are no AI data center applications under review.

By supporting the moratorium, the Board is demonstrating its commitment to thoughtful planning and ensuring that the health, safety, and welfare of Hernando County residents, visitors, and businesses remain the County's highest priority.

In honor of the United States of America’s 250th birthday, Hernando County Fire Rescue Captain Andy Bryant generously donated a handcrafted wooden American flag to the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC). Captain Bryant presented the flag at a regular BOCC meeting on May 26, 2026. Crafted with a chainsaw and painted by hand, the flag will be proudly displayed in the Commission Chambers at the Hernando County Courthouse for years to come. 🇺🇸

As part of the ongoing celebration of the nation’s birthday, the BOCC will welcome patriotic organizations and demonstrations at one meeting each month. Stay tuned for more presentations that honor America!
