We were honored to welcome Congresswoman-Elect Darializa Avila Chevalier to Housing Works' 125th Street Health Center for a tour, where we highlighted the programs that connect New Yorkers to healthcare, mental health services, case management, housing support, and innovative treatment options such as esketamine therapy.

Our conversation reinforced a shared commitment to protecting Medicaid, expanding affordable, low cost housing, ending child poverty, and investing in solutions that help every New Yorker live with dignity and stability.

Housing Works is excited to continue building this working relationship and partnering toward a healthier, more affordable, and more equitable New York City for All.

Yesterday, we gathered in the Bronx to mark the 25th anniversary of International Overdose Awareness Day, joining advocates, community members, healthcare workers, and public servants in remembrance and action.

Although overdose deaths are declining across New York City, the Bronx continues to bear the greatest burden of this crisis. Driven by persistent inequities and systemic racism, these disparities remind us that progress is not enough if entire communities are still being left behind.

We honor the lives lost, support those currently struggling, and recommit ourselves to advancing harm reduction, access to treatment, overdose prevention, and other lifesaving services that help our communities thrive and build.

This year marks 25 years of International Overdose Awareness Day. As we gather in the Bronx today, we remember the lives lost, honor the people still with us, and recommit to a future where no one is left behind.

For years, the Bronx has experienced some of the highest overdose death rates in New York City, a stark reminder that the overdose crisis is not about individual failure. It's about the policies, inequities, and barriers that put people at risk. Harm reduction saves lives because it meets people where they are with dignity, care, and support.

Today, we stand for evidence-based solutions, overdose prevention, and a simple truth: people who use drugs deserve love, compassion, and access to care.

We mourn the dead. We fight like hell for the living. And we do it together. 💜

Beyond her extraordinary music, Dolly used her platform to uplift others through literacy initiatives, healthcare funding and advocacy, and support for LGBTQ+ communities. Her fundraising for HIV/AIDS research made her a champion of progress and cemented her legacy as a true advocate for our community. 🌹

This week marks 25 years of International Overdose Awareness Day. As we mark this important milestone, we honor those we've lost, recognize the progress we've made, and recommit to protecting that progress as punitive drug policies continue to target people who use drugs, disproportionately impacting people of color, q***r and trans communities, and those living at their intersections.

These policies undermine bodily autonomy, safety, and dignity.

We call for solidarity and collective action rooted in the visions and resistance of q***r and trans people and people who use drugs. Donate to Housing Works today to support our advocacy for overdose prevention centers, harm reduction programs, and comprehensive healthcare.
