Albert Little Elk was featured for Native American Heritage month for the South Dakota National Guard!

In observance of Native American and Alaskan Native Heritage Month, the South Dakota National Guard highlights Sgt. Albert Little Elk, member of the 147 Forward Support Company. Little Elk, of St. Francis, joined the SDNG in November 2006. He shares with us his thoughts on his heritage and serving as a soldier.
Why did you decide to join the SDNG?

I joined the South Dakota Army National Guard because I wanted to continue to serve after I was discharged from active duty Army.

What has been your favorite moment or part of serving?

My favorite part of serving is being a part of something bigger than myself.

What does this observance mean to you?

The observance of Native American Heritage month makes me proud to be a Lakota Sioux Native American and that my ancestors are being recognized for being a great people.
