I was saddened to read of the passing of Adelaide Marek. She and her family endured an unspeakable tragedy when her daughter, Elizabeth, was killed in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988. Adelaide and her family made an extraordinarily generous contribution to our Rotary Club in Brookfield toward our Centennial Project in 2005, which was a Memorial Garden on the grounds of the Brookfield Town Hall (Municipal Center). The Garden was dedicated in part to Elizabeth's memory, and the Marek family was first in line to help make it happen. We always remember and thank them for their generosity to the community, and wish her family comfort and peace during this difficult time.

Kudos to fellow Rotarian, Jeffrey Kass, for this brief editorial in the News-Times concerning ethics in business and the Rotary Four-Way Test. http://www.newstimes.com/opinion/article/A-four-way-test-for-ethical-situations-9219573.php

[...] he states, no absolute or unvarying standard exists to determine how one should behave when caught up in a m...

It was great to join my friends from the Housatonic Valley Rotary Club and be part of the overflow crowd at today's Shamrock Hospice Breakfast at The Candlewood Inn. The building was packed, both parking lots were filled, and I, like so many others, parked on the edge of the road on the grass even though I arrived 1/2 hour before the official start time! They mentioned that last year's breakfast raised over $32,000, and that they hoped and anticipated that they would surpass that mark this year.
