“Dangerous Fugitive Arrested”

On April 4th 2026, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Levy County Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance in locating a Daniel Sanchez Ortiz (DOB 12/27/71) who was suspected of shooting a female in Orlando Florida. Ortiz, being a resident of Bronson, Florida, was believed to be possibly at a residence in Bronson. Deputies with the Levy County Sheriff's Office made several attempts to locate Ortiz, yielding negative results.

On May 8th 2026, Detectives with LCSO gathered intelligence that Ortiz would be in the area of Williston, Florida. In a combined effort with the Williston Police Department, Detectives and Deputies safely took Ortiz into custody, where he was arrested on his warrant for attempted murder. Ortiz was then transferred to the Levy County jail where he will be held on his out of county warrant.

Pop-Up Parties Disrupt Williston Residents

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office has been plagued over the past month with pop-up parties in Williston. These unsanctioned gatherings of 700+ people block roads, create noise disturbances and bring violence to this small community. The Sheriff’s Office responds to Williston residents’ calls asking deputies to disperse these crowds and give them some peace.

An unpermitted and unsanctioned event puts an unreasonable strain on the already burdened law enforcement, medical and firefighters. Organizers are often difficult to identify. These events are not safe, nor is it fair to the residents of Williston to promote an unpermitted and unsanctioned event. These events jeopardize the safety and welfare of the residents and visitors. They put an undue strain on law enforcement, medical and firefighting to provide emergency services and enforce the laws while protecting and serving all involved.

Rest assured that if these events continue the Levy County Sheriff’s Office will enforce all laws, state and local, to ensure the public health, safety and welfare of all. The Levy County Sheriff’s Office will have ZERO TOLERANCE for any violations, traffic or otherwise. Where authorized by law, Levy County Sheriff’s Office will impound vehicles for traffic and criminal violations. Additionally, Levy County Sheriff’s Office will pursue all legal means to recover from any organizer or the promoters all costs and fees associated with providing supplemental law enforcement, firefighter, emergency medical technician, paramedic and sanitation services.

The LCSO asks the public not to engage in these public parties. IF you choose to participate you may be subject to criminal and/or civil sanctions.

Levy County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services- A New Chapter

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office officially took over animal services on Monday, May 4, 2026. Officers from the now dissolved animal control division under the guidance of the Levy County BoCC were given an opportunity to apply with the Sheriff’s Office. All declined this offer. The Sheriff’s Office took over with a clean slate; all dogs and cats were re-homed prior to the 4th.

Currently, the Sheriff’s Office is operating animal services with one employee, the director Ericka Hudson. Six candidates for animal services officer are going through the required background checks and should be in place within the next two weeks. Until then, Director Hudson is shouldering the entire operation.

We ask our public to be patient with us during this transition. The BoCC, based upon the agreement with Sheriff McCallum, is working to complete the Animal Services building renovations. Animal Services office hours are 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A staff member on loan from the LCSO Patrol Division is there to answer incoming phone calls from our public. Please contact Animal Services at 352-486-5138 with any questions.

Stay tuned as the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services page will soon be active. Give us a follow, share and like.

CFEC annual meeting:

This morning, members of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office had the opportunity to attend the Central Florida Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting at the Suwannee River Fairgrounds.

We truly enjoyed connecting with the citizens we serve and spending time with their families and children. Events like this are a great reminder of the strong community we’re proud to be part of.

Thank you for including us in such a well-organized and welcoming event.

The Levy County Sheriff's Office is thankful to have been a part of the celebration for Reverend Richard Harding, yesterday. Reverend Harding dedicated over 30 years to the staff and detainees at the Levy County Sheriff's Office (Detention Facility), helping lead us to the everlasting healing of Jesus Christ.

County Commissioner Johnny Hiers read the proclamation onto the record. Sheriff McCallum presented Reverend Harding with a small token of our unyielding support for his service and ministry to our office.

🚨🚨Update🚨🚨

The Williston Middle High School staff, students, and visitors are safe and accounted for. Levy County Sheriffs Office and Williston Police Department have cleared the school ensured they’re safe. Students and staff have been given the all clear and are being released now.

Heavy law enforcement presence at Williston Middle High School and Williston Elementary right now in response to what we believe is a "Swatting Call." This unfortunate trend involves prank calls to get a law enforcement response. EVERYTHING thus far indicates that it is a false alarm. Please be patient as we follow the safety protocols.

Multiple agencies have received similar threats. We will update the public ASAP. Thank you.

On April 27, 2026 members of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard met with other law enforcement from the State of Florida in remembrance at the Florida Sheriffs Association Law Enforcement Memorial ceremony in Tallahassee. This day is a solemn tribute dedicated to remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice and honoring the men and women of law enforcement who continue to put their lives on the line every day.

Sheriff McCallum had the honor to share a few words with those gathered there and LCSO Honor Guard member Corporal Dean Macintyre who presented taps.

Today and every day, we remember those who we lost; their sacrifice and to honor their legacy. We stand in unwavering support of those who serve and protect our communities.
