As you are heading outdoors to enjoying the long holiday weekend, here's some tips for having a safe camp fire.

*Camp Fires (Recreational Fires) should be in a fire ring and no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet, and kept under 3 feet tall.

*Do not burn trash or paper/cardboard materials as these produce embers that can easily fly away and start a forest fire.

*Keep an area of 25 feet around your fire ring clear of any combustible materials.

*Have a good source of water nearby to extinguish any stray hot embers.

*Be sure to completely extinguish the fire when you are done. Below is what you should do to ensure it is completely out:
Step 1: Drown the fire with copious amounts of water.
Step 2: Stir the water deep into the hot coals.
Step 3: Feel for any residual heat and repeat steps 1 & 2 if there is still heat present.

*Always make sure your camp fire is out before leaving.

*A camp fire is not completely out until it is cold.

*Remember you are responsible for your camp fire until it is completely out.

Have a safe Memorial Day Weekend!
