A proud Austin-East Magnet High School graduate, Evetty Satterfield has been afforded phenomenal opportunities through education. She contributes her development from the many mentors that surrounded her in the East Knoxville Community. She holds a Special Education degree from Alabama A&M University and a Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Evetty understands the importance of mastering your craft in order to serve your community with passion and knowledge. In her short, yet fulfilled, lifespan, Evetty has served as a Founding Corps Member for City Year Denver, an Ella Baker Trainer for the Children's Defense Fund, launched three American Honors program at the nation's only state-funded community college and recently returned from sharing her talents internationally as the Director of Student Services at an International school in Abu Dhabi, UAE. A common theme Evetty has realized throughout her journey is that in every community, the youth are the most valuable resource, yet the most underserved. Evetty returned to Knoxville, TN in 2016 and served as the College and Career Access Coach for Project GRAD Knoxville at Austin–East Magnet High School. She is now the Manager of School Partnerships with Academic Approach, serving her 7th year as Co-Director for TENSE Summit and running a successful campaign to become the next School Board representative for Knox County Schools - District 1.

Still smiling about this one. 🍿

This week, I opened AMC Theatres Belonging Summit with a conversation about leading change and building real commitment.

After 15 years in education, a decade of leadership, and three years of doctoral study, it felt good to bring all of that into a room of leaders ready to do the work. The question underneath my session was simple: When someone’s behavior shifts, do we get curious about what’s happening, or do we assume we already know?

Thank you to AMC for investing in your people and everyone in the room for showing up fully.

I’ve got some lessons and tools from this experience to share over the next few weeks. This is the work I’m building through Advancing Lives, and I’m excited to show you more.

Evetty, you ran a MARATHON in Sydney, AUSTRALIA 🤯🇦🇺

Yeah… idk how we got here, but it’s ridiculously dope! 😂

I had SO much fun! And while I thought I was going to beat my Boston Marathon time, them Sydney hills AND that Sydney sun said, “GOTCHA!” 😭😂 I’m just grateful the sweeper bus didn’t catch me! 😩🚌🧹

Thank you to alllll the people who helped make this happen. From receiving a bib 🦄, to the financial support 💜💛, to every text, call, check-in, cheer, and word of encouragement along the way 🫂. Thank you!

26.2 miles later, I’m officially a 3x marathoner and ⭐️⭐️ Abbott World Major finisher.

Kinda wild to say, but 🗣️ I WANT SOME MORE! 🤭

🗣️ City Year, What Time Is It?!?!

What an amazing night full of energy and incredible support. : I served as a founding corps member for City Year Denver way back when 🤭. Connecting with CYGB has allowed me to reflect on just how impactful that year of service was on the trajectory of my life, both professionally and personally.

The 7th graders at Rachel B. Noel in 2012 helped shape who I am today.

One week ago, I added some letters to my name. Ed.L.D., to be exact. Only a few knew this was a desire planted in my heart back in 2016. Ten years later, God said desire to done.

I’m immensely blessed for the opportunity. A program that invites you to step back, reflect on who you are as a leader and who you desire to become, then surrounds you with remarkable resources to help you get there. I don’t take any of it for granted, and I’m excited to pay forward all that I’ve received as I keep navigating this thing called life.

And y’all, Y’ALL, my support system is PHENOMENAL. I felt so loved, seen, and held all weekend. My people showed UP and showed out, even the 100+ folks on Zoom!

Forever grateful. 💐

I have some news. 🤩

This week, I submitted my capstone, 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀, marking the conclusion of a 10-month residency at , a national nonpartisan civic leadership development organization.

The question I spent the year inside:

On April 16th, I’ll present and defend this work as part of completing my Ed.L.D. at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. For 30 minutes, I’ll walk through how an inquiry became an organizational strategy and all the leadership learning in between.
