Sometimes the work of a coroner’s office goes far beyond the scene of a death, and this is one of those stories.

Earlier this April, a Chandler firefighter, while working construction at his full-time job, discovered human cremated remains along an alleyway. Recognizing the importance and dignity of what he had found, he carefully collected the remains and contacted Warrick County Coroner Alissa Salee-Enright for assistance.

After receiving the cremains, the Coroner’s Office conducted an investigation and was ultimately able to reconnect them with the family they belonged to.

Today, when the cremains were returned, the family member was overcome with emotion as they were reunited with their loved one. It was a powerful reminder that even during difficult and unexpected circumstances, compassion and kindness can make a lasting impact.

Life can take unexpected turns, and sometimes hardships can lead to heartbreaking situations. But this story is also a reminder that there are still people willing to step in, help, and do the right thing simply because it matters.

Because of the caring actions of a Chandler firefighter and the dedication of the Coroner’s Office, this story was able to have a meaningful ending and bring peace back to a family.

People often ask what a coroner does. Sometimes, it’s moments like these; helping families, preserving dignity, and bringing loved ones home.

This week is EMS Week, and the Warrick County Coroner’s Office would like to recognize and thank the incredible EMS providers who serve not only our communities, but also our office.

Our deputies and team members come from all areas of EMS and bring a tremendous amount of knowledge, compassion, and experience to death investigations. From NICU transport teams caring for our smallest patients, to paramedics serving on offshore oil rigs, Warrick EMS providers answering emergency calls every day, and EMS educators helping train the next generation, their backgrounds make our office stronger.

They have dedicated their lives to helping others on some of the best and worst days imaginable, and we are proud to work alongside them as part of the “last responder” team.

Thank you to all EMS professionals for your commitment, sacrifice, and service to our communities. Happy EMS Week!

On May 1st, Coroner Alissa Enright spoke with a reporter regarding the increasing number of su***des in Warrick County. As May is Mental Health Awareness Month, this serves as an important reminder to check on your loved ones, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.

Our numbers continue to rise, and behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a community impacted by loss. A simple conversation, text message, or act of kindness can make more of a difference than you may ever realize.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. Call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline 24/7.

Happy Mother’s Day from the Warrick County Coroner’s Office 💐

Today we honor all mothers, those who are still with us, those we hold close in memory, and the mothers carrying the unimaginable loss of a child. Motherhood comes in many forms, and today we recognize the strength, love, sacrifice, and compassion that mothers give so freely every single day.

We especially remember the mothers who are no longer here but whose love continues to shape their families and communities forever.

As we reach the one-third mark of 2026, the Warrick County Coroner’s Office wants to take a moment to share our year-to-date death totals in the spirit of transparency.

We share this information not only to provide insight into the work our office does, but also to raise awareness about what is happening within our community.

One area of concern is our number of su***des. Statistically, we typically see around 10 su***des per year. At this point in 2026, we have already reached 7. This is a sobering reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and support.

If you or someone you know is struggling or having thoughts of su***de, please know that help is available. You can call or text 988, the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, at any time. Trained counselors are available 24/7 to listen, support, and help connect you with local resources.

You are not alone!

One of the hardest parts of a first responder’s job is quickly finding who to contact in an emergency. In those moments, every second matters. Not having that information readily available can make an already difficult situation even harder.

The attached graphic provides a step-by-step guide for adding an emergency contact to your phone. It will guide users on both Android and iPhone devices, with exact instructions for iPhone.

Take a few minutes to set this up for yourself and for your loved ones. It’s especially important for teens and older adults. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it could make all the difference when it matters most.

Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week to the incredible Warrick County Dispatchers!

From the Last First Responder to the First First Responder, THANK YOU. You are the calm in the chaos, the steady voice on the other end of the line, and the unseen heroes who set everything in motion. Your ability to handle the unthinkable with professionalism, compassion, and strength does not go unnoticed. We may not always see you, but we feel the impact of your work every single day.

Thank you for being the voice people hear on their worst days and for being the reason help is already on the way. 💛

Words cannot express the overwhelming sense of love and togetherness we felt today in Floyd County as we laid Mr. Wilkins to rest.

As many of you know, Mr. Wilkins has been in the care of our office since January. We never could have imagined the outpouring of love and support that would be shown as we honored him today at the National Cemetery in New Albany.

The Floyd County community showed up in such a powerful way. Police, Fire, EMS, EMA, Boy and Girl Scouts, community leaders, and veterans from all over came together to ensure he was not laid to rest alone. It was truly beautiful!

We are beyond grateful to everyone who took the time to attend and honor his life.

A special thank you to Main Street United Methodist Church, Koehler Funeral Home, and the Floyd County Coroner’s Office for their support in making today so meaningful.
