The Boonton Township Fire Prevention Bureau urges everyone to keep these 25’ from a structure. As well, please ensure you have some type of water available for proper extinguishment. Reminder that only seasoned firewood can be burned and at no time is the burning of leaves or refuse permitted.

This is a message from the Boonton Township Office of Emergency Management:

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management has asked that we provide this message to the residents of Boonton Township.

“The New Jersey Forrest Fire service along with many other fire departments and mutual aid partners continue to deal with the Jennings Creek Wildfire in West Milford. As a result of wind shifts, the smell of smoke in our municipality is resulting in an increased number of 911 calls to the Morris County Communications Center. We are aware of the smoke and ask that residents do NOT call 911 unless you have identified a real emergency. This emergency system is getting overloaded. If you are sensitive to smoke conditions, please keep your windows closed.”

We appreciate your willingness to quickly report smoke or fire. Fire danger continues to be high.
